Junior Professional Associates – Program Description

The Junior Professionals Associate Program (JPA) offers an exceptional opportunity for recent graduates to embark on a professional journey, providing a three-year contract with valuable work experience within a diverse and dynamic environment and the potential of field work experience. The JPA program at the World Bank is a highly competitive initiative. ITS Vice Presidency – Financial Engineering (ITSFE)

The Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU) enables the World Bank Group to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150+ locations. ITS Financial Engineering (ITSFE) unit provides systems and systems and technology support to mission critical and core financial applications of the WBG, such as Murex and Numerix, which are used to support both investment and funding activities across the World Bank.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Portfolio Analytics team within ITSFE is responsible for supporting and implementing tools to facilitate and enhance risk management analysis and reporting for the World Bank. The team is responsible for developing, testing, and improving on models, tools, and techniques used in support of these efforts.

• Developing models and techniques to develop and test investment strategies, to envision and create new financial products, to manage risk, and to produce scenarios and forecasts for both short- and long-term perspectives on the markets.

• Gather, elicit, and validate business requirements and the preparation of business requirements documents in concise yet comprehensive manner translating business language into appropriate technical terminologies.

• Create financial models to support management of liabilities and assets

• Build and develop complex cash flow models using appropriate software

• Support senior staff in the preparation of IT capital investment fund requests through an agile approach and sustaining the importance (value addition) of such investments.

• Translate results from analysis and models into understandable conclusions.

• Under the guidance of senior ITS staff, partners with business leaders to identify cross-functional opportunities that integrate organizational and technological strategies and integrate client’s specific operational requirements as they relate to the organizational strategy. Provides recommendations and agrees plans that align medium-term needs with strategic goals/objectives.

• Act as a liaison between sponsors, business users, team leads, subject matter experts, project & development teams, and on-premises and offshore vendor resources. Leads meetings with stakeholders to gain in-depth understanding of business needs, spells out business and systems capabilities, and communicate to vendors as appropriate.

• Help decision makes identify opportunities and risks in their lines of business.

• Understands the organizational mission, values, operations and goals and ITS policies and procedures and serves as a resource to other professionals. • Ensures team is compliant and in alignment of the same.

• Drive transformational business performance, productivity, and cost efficiency through world class IT sourcing and vendor management practices to delivering world-class IT

• Contributes new insights to understand situations and develops solutions to resolve complex problems. Adapts as circumstances require and manages impact of own behavior on others in context of WBG’s values and mission. Identifies and pursues innovative approaches to resolve issues.

• Perform backtesting and stress testing on financial models to ensure accuracy and reliability.

• Ability to utilize Business Intelligence tools (Power BI) to represent insights.

• Hands on with the Agile development process and ability to prepare project plans, communicate the plan to stakeholders, and break the work down to trackable tasks.

• In line with the institutional strategy, adoption of the cloud first strategy in the solution design and to assist the teams in coming up with the best approach for Cloud migrations, including architecture evaluation, setting up orchestration for application deployments.

• Analyze financial products, instruments and strategies to identify risks and returns.

 

Selection Criteria

 

• Education: Must have a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Math Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields with minimum 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.

• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R or MATLAB

• Knowledge of or participation in the development and implementation of business-driven solutions using different technical solutions.

• Experience in the following areas:

o Financial Markets and Securities

o Computer Science/Programming: Python

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Must be able to work in a global team

• Participate in the entire software development life cycle for various enterprise systems.

OTHER qualifications that will be a plus

• Master’s degree in a technical area (such as Math, Physics or Engineering), quantitative finance field.

• Contributes subject matter expertise and demonstrate the business domain skills for other professionals in their field.

• Knowledge and exposure of AI solutions implementation life cycle, including SME training and validation practices and processes.

• Data analysis and rationalization.
