Junior Professional Associates – Program Description

The Junior Professionals Associate Program (JPA) offers an exceptional opportunity for recent graduates to embark on a professional journey, providing a three-year contract with valuable work experience within a diverse and dynamic environment and the potential of field work experience. The program is an excellent platform to sharpen your existing skills and to develop new ones, all while gaining a profound understanding of the challenges associated with reducing poverty and fostering shared prosperity on a livable planet.

Specific Unit Description – Poverty and Equity Global Practice, Statistical Development of the Latin America and the Caribbean region

The Poverty and Equity Global Practice, part of the Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions vice-presidency, plays a key role in supporting the World Bank Group’s goals of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity on a livable planet. It generates knowledge and dialogue and supports operational solutions, focusing on poverty monitoring and statistical capacity building, markets and institutions, fiscal and social policy, and resilience to shocks and sustainability. The practice is organized into seven regionally-oriented units, each managed by a Practice Manager. The development and flow of global knowledge within the practice is facilitated through five cross-cutting thematic lines. These are (1) data; (2) markets and institutions; (3) fiscal and social policy; (4) fragility and conflict, and (5) climate change. Every member of the practice contributes to the work of at least one of the thematic lines.

The Team for Statistical Development of the Latin America and the Caribbean region (within the Poverty and Equity Global Practice) is seeking to hire a Junior Professional Associate (JPA) to work at its headquarters in Washington D.C. to contribute to its analytical and operational programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement economic analyses of poverty and equity issues in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.
• Contribute to high-profile and technically demanding reports, by implementing state-of-the-art approaches in applied economic analyses and econometrics.
• Contribute to the harmonization process of consumption and expenditure household surveys of the countries in the LAC region.
• Contribute to the team’s collaborative activities with other bank teams including: supporting the Global Poverty Working Group, calculating international indicators, gathering official data, contributing to the Macro and Poverty Outlook reports, Poverty and Equity Briefs, among others.
• Creating and updating Tableau or PowerBI dashboards.
• Collaborate in other initiatives connected to the annual work program.

 

Selection Criteria

 

• MA in Economics, Statistics, or other related disciplines, with strong analytical and quantitative skills.

• Strong analytical skills and experience in the following areas: (a) poverty, inequality and labor markets; (b) econometrics and quantitative analysis of household surveys including panel data; (c) data management and programing knowledge in Stata.

• Proven writing and editing skills, and ability to convey complex ideas in a creative, clear, direct, and lively style.

• Strong interpersonal, and team skills; demonstrated client orientation; sensitized in working in a diverse and multicultural environment.

• Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and capably handle multiple tasks within tight deadlines. Experience working with cross-functional teams.

• Fluency of English and working proficiency in Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese.
