MENA Planet Practice Group (PG)
The MENA Planet Practice Group (PG) department helps clients protect and effectively use their natural wealth – air, land, and water – for inclusive and stable societies. In line with this mission, the MENA Planet value proposition is to help client countries promote water and food security and build resilience against climate risks; use natural resources well for jobs and long-term growth; and increase stability and trust between society and government on key development issues.
Going forward, MENA Planet will emphasize efforts to build climate resilience, advance water and food security, productively use blue and green resources, and deepen our enabling role on FCV and inclusion. While MENA Planet’s work in the region will remain broad, the evolution roadmap offers clear priorities. The first is to continue putting CCDR insights into action, seize opportunities for jobs and green growth, manage transitions, and adapt to climate risks in a way that makes macro-fiscal sense and advances poverty reduction. Secondly, the water and food security GCPs are of central importance to stability and growth in the region and will continue to form a central part of the portfolio, including through work on subsidy reform. Thirdly, we look to do more to protect coastal resources, grow the blue economy, and sustain livability and livelihoods in drylands, forests, and oases, in alignment with the forest management GCP. Finally, MENA Planet will continue to emphasize our enabling role for work in the region’s FCV economies, and for the critical challenge of inclusion, especially with a view to jobs for youth and women.
The Planet PG Department covers four global practices: Agriculture and Food; Environment, Natural Resources and the Blue Economy; Social Inclusion, and Water. The Climate Change Group is a global group that is part of SD. The MENA Planet PG has a portfolio of $5.5 billion (37 active projects) and $0.6 billion in new pipeline lending (9 projects), and 27 active analytical and advisory services (ASAs).
Duties and Responsibilities
The MENA Planet Department is looking for a dynamic team member to work as part of its Front Office (FO). The successful candidate will report to the Planet PG Regional Director (RD) and will be expected to contribute to various functions of the FO spanning research, data analytics and presentations, portfolio support, and engage in various knowledge management and outreach activities.
