JOB SUMMARY

 

The position is within the Resource Mobilization Unit, headed by the Chief of Resource Mobilization and Partnerships. The unit is responsible for fundraising, donor relations and grant management at the Afghanistan Country Office (ACO). UNICEF Afghanistan’s Humanitarian Action for Children in one of the UNICEF’s largest, with a 2024 HAC of $1.4 billion.

The Resource Mobilization Unit supports partnership scoping, building and retention of public and private donors. In addition, the unit manages the grants contribution management, including compliance with donors’ requirements and the submission of high-quality reports.

• Assist in delivering against the fundraising targets of the Afghanistan Country Office (CO) and the implementation of the CO Resource Mobilization plan by participating in the preparation and coordination of funding proposals, concept notes, briefing notes, internal and external analysis, and other relevant materials to foster donor engagement.

• In collaboration with Public Partnership Division (PPD), provide oversight, technical support, and guidance to the country office regarding proposal development and related grant management.

• In collaboration with the Communications Section, support the implementation of the Afghanistan Country Office visibility and recognition plans, and related work plans to support the visibility of UNICEF’s role in Afghanistan and to ensure donor visibility/communication materials’ requirements are met.

• Ensure timeliness and quality of donor reporting and other donor submissions. This includes gathering of information, consolidation, editing, layout and branding of all required reports on contributions to Afghanistan, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, quality of data and systematic results-based reporting.

• Support office in capturing donor meetings actions, news, and updates systematically to support the section and office with valuable information on existing donors and support the exploration of new donors.

• Diplomatic communication and negotiation skills to establish and maintain trusted partnerships and to develop close and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of resource mobilization processes and experience working on proposals, reports, presentations and talking points.
• Skill in researching and scoping and identifying new opportunities or requirements to meet challenges in the field and propose changes.

• Afghanistan is an L1 emergency, non family, E duty station with a 4-week R&R cycle.
• Due to security, all UN Staff reside at UNOCA compound.
• Once in country UNV will be teamed up with a ‘buddy’ to help with the following:
o Greet you at the UNICEF ACO Reception upon your arrival from airport.
o Lead you to your accommodation and handover the accommodation keys to you
o Give you a tour of the UNOCA compound to see the AIB bank branch, restaurants, shops, gym, Joint Medical Service (JMS) etc.
o Introduce you in person to all staff in the respective sections/

Dress Code:
When traveling outside of the compound, men should wear trousers. Women are asked to wear ankle-length pants or skirts with long tops (such as tunics or Indian kurtas) and do not show any cleavage. Women should have a head covering/scarf if going outside the compound. Please have one on hand for your arrival into Kabul airport. During working hours, in summer, tunic tops with mid- or full-length sleeves (not short sleeves) are acceptable and open sandals are common. On the compound, the dress is more casual on weekends and evenings, and it is acceptable to wear less conservative dress during off-work hours.
