Position Title: Project Lead, Montgomery, PIH-US
Reports to: Director, Alabama, PIH-US
Location: Montgomery, Alabama (required, or ability to travel to Montgomery 4-5 days a week; occasional other domestic travel for all-team retreats)
Position Type: Full-time (may include evenings and weekends)

Our current focus communities include Alabama, South Florida, Newark, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Pima County, Arizona. We capture learnings from across this network to mobilize resources, advance policy change, and lay the groundwork for stronger community health systems nationally.
Position Overview:
The Project Lead will join the Alabama team with the goal of leading technical advising and implementation accompaniment efforts in Montgomery, Alabama. The Project Lead will serve as the primary liaison with our anchor partners, the City of Montgomery and Alabama Department of Public Health, working on the development and implementation of effective equitable public health responses to COVID-19, mental health, and general health outcomes, including community health worker programs, vaccine outreach efforts, and other associated areas of work. In addition, the Project Lead will create and foster new and existing relationships in Montgomery with community based-organizations, health systems, academic institutions, etc. to deepen and expand the reach of PIH-US in Montgomery, Alabama. The Project Lead will be expected to have a strong community engagement background, the ability to work on management and administration of projects, provide convening and facilitation expertise, demonstrate strong oral and written communication, and work autonomously.
Responsibilities:
Technical advising and strategic planning (50%):
  • Develop and implement PIH’s technical advising support for the City of Montgomery, on building community centered public health infrastructure.
  • Provide strategic leadership, administrative and managerial oversight and monitoring of ongoing workstreams and priority initiatives identified together with the City of Montgomery and local community-based partners.
  • Workstreams may include: community-based workforce development and management; technology and data integration; health literacy; care resource coordination; unsheltered response, communications & community engagement; mental health programming; violence prevention; community health needs assessment strategic planning; community health improvement plan (CHIP); management and oversight of a health and human services committee to plan and implement CHIP recommendations; reporting on effectiveness of community health workers in Montgomery.
  • Oversee the development of materials related to training of community health worker staff and support supervision, training, and mentoring implementation, as requested.
Strategy development and broader Montgomery stakeholder engagement (25%):
  • Identify and develop new opportunities together with The City of Montgomery, Alabama Department of Health, and community partners for PIH-US to add value and maximize impact with our advising support.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government agencies, and with other implementing and technical partners and manage communication channels to ensure continuity and transparency across stakeholders.
  • Lead, facilitate, and organize meetings among the project partners and stakeholders, both in person and virtually.
Project and grant management (25%):
  • Management and supervision of internal PIH-US project staff as needed.
  • Evaluate project performance across multiple workstreams using appropriate KPIs and project metrics for internal PIH-US reporting and external reporting to funders.
  • Provide regular reports on program and work progress to supervisor and PIH-US leadership team and liaise across other PIH-US teams.
  • Oversee assigned project management plan(s) and approve project documents to support implementation.
  • Oversee project deliverables, including reports and other materials.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health desirable
  • 6-8 years of experience in public health or community program development and implementation required
  • 4+ years of community engagement and collaboration required
  • Experience with training / teaching, even in an informal capacity
  • Experience with facilitating groups
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation of project workstreams
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Zoom required
  • Experience collaborating between public health or other governmental programs preferred
  • Experience working with community health workers or community mobilization and engagement, particularly within Alabama or other similar areas
  • Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives, particularly in partnership with community partners and stakeholders
  • Experience with high-level public health program management in emergency response settings preferred
  • Ability to meet project partners on site in Montgomery, Alabama
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and prioritizing many projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced organization and setting
  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments, organizations, and experience levels
  • Experience managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders and workstreams
  • Experience working in complex, dynamic environments
  • Sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, sense of humor and flexibility in the face of rapidly evolving scope of work and new challenges
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on continual written documentation of project(s) progression
  • Proficient in making informed decisions while working independently and contributing innovative ideas to enhance workstreams

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $90,000 and $100,000/year. The starting salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market for the position, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan with employer match, as well as participate in organization-sponsored medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Full time employees will receive 15 days of vacation, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 3 volunteer days in addition to paid time off during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the week of July 4th, and 11 additional holidays annually.
