JOB SUMMARY

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the MAKANI Project Coordinator, the Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Officer will be responsible for implementing activities aimed at fostering social and behavioral change within the community. The primary focus of the SBC Officer is to ensure a strong and effective linkage between the community and the community center. This role is critical in enhancing community engagement, promoting positive behavioral changes, and ensuring that the community center’s resources are utilized effectively to meet the community’s needs.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Programme implementation/management:

The Social and Behavioral Change Officer will:

Community engagement:

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage the community in the activities of the community center.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to raise awareness about the community center’s programs and services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and other stakeholders.

Behavioural Change Management:

  • Design, plan, and execute SBC programs aimed at promoting positive behaviors within the community.
  • Use evidence-based approaches to develop SBC campaigns that address key issues such as health, education, hygiene, and social inclusion.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SBC activities and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Provide training and support to community volunteers and staff on SBC methodologies and best practices.
  • Organize capacity-building workshops to empower community members with the skills and knowledge needed to drive behavioral change initiatives.
  • Create and disseminate informational materials such as brochures, flyers, and social media content to promote the community center and its programs.
  • Conduct outreach activities to inform the community about available services and encourage participation.
  • Serve as a liaison between the community center and the community to ensure open and effective communication.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Collect and analyze data related to SBC activities and community engagement.
  • Prepare regular reports on the progress and impact of SBC programs and present findings to the MAKANI Project Manager.
  • Ensure all activities are documented and aligned with project goals and objectives.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with other project team members to integrate SBC activities into the overall project plan.
  • Collaborate with external partners, NGOs, and government agencies to enhance the reach and impact of SBC programs.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to the development of project strategies and action plans.

Resource Management:

  • Ensure efficient use of resources allocated for SBC activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of expenditures and manage the budget for SBC programs

Team management and capacity building

  • Work closely with other sectors/ partners to ensure capacity of identification and referral skills.
  • Submit weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities, case load and related challenged.
  • Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information to make sure that work with individual cases is of quality.

External relationships/Representation

  • Close coordination with other CP/EDU/FSL actors as needed to ensure appropriate implementation of activities in line with national policies, procedures and standards.

General

  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • In agreement with the line manager, perform other required duties within reason when needed (in line with skills and experience).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, or other related fields.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Educational background in social science (sociology, social work, psychology, etc).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people, build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Experience in working with local communities on right of refugee children and youth to education and inclusion of people with disabilities.
