The Opportunity – Child Friendly Space (CFS) Facilitator (Casual Worker)

Post location: Gaza Field Office – Deir al Balah – Subject to change depending on SC priorities

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 1 month with possibility of extension.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The responsibilities of this position include the facilitation of community discussions, implementation of CP/MHPSS activities and the engagement with target groups in Save the Children’s static CFS. Additionally, the role involves ensuring operational smoothness, supporting communication tasks, implementing activities related to projects in locations where the team in Gaza office operates, particularly in Save the Children’s Child Protection areas of implementation but subjected to other SCI sector’s needs. Hired staff must comply with Save the Children International’s policies and procedures.

For CFS facilitators assigned to Child Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial support (CP/MHPSS) team, they will be working at the implementing static locations level and in close collaboration with other CP/MHPSS staff as the CP/MHPSS Supervisors, Officers, Coordinators and SC implementing partners. They will be responsible for the provision of PSS, Safe Identification and Referral (SIR) and awareness raising sessions on child protection while ensuring MEAL mechanisms and CP Minimum Standards in place.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: CP/MHPSS Supervisor

Staff reporting to this post: None.

Role Dimensions: oPt CO is a high complexity country, multi-member interest, with an annual budget of around $40+m, and 100+ staff. Currently the program is experiencing a growth in funding and complexity due to the war in Gaza.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Represent Save the Children and engage with target groups in static CFS in close collaboration with CP/MHPSS Community Engagement Workers (CEW) implementing activities in mobile locations.
  • Prepare and facilitate workshops with children, following the children’s resilience programme or other nonclinical PSS support set out by the CFS supervisor .
  • Contribute to developing weekly schedules of activities.
  • Ensure variety of semi-structured and recreational activities in the CFS catering the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities.
  • Implement safe and fun activities with children
  • Ensure safe, child friendly and participatory atmosphere in the CFS
  • Continuously monitor and report on the emerging child protection needs of children arriving to the CFS.
  • Participate and engage in planning and coordination activities with the team.
  • Follow Save the Children’s procedures for the identification and referral of children in need of specialized services
  • Actively participate in capacity building activities
  • Feed into regular reporting and records keeping mechanisms
  • Establish collaborative relationship with caregivers and ensure their participation in decision making.
  • Identify and engage with community leaders in informal shelters and possible CFS implementing locations, built the trust with the community and refer to the CP/MHPSS supervisor the possible place of implementation.
  • Meet regularly with the CP/MHPSS Supervisor to discuss workshop planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Assist the CP/MHPSS supervisor in making the procurement list and maintain an adequate stock of the location including maintenance.
  • Assist with data collection, observation and accountability as set out by the CP/MHPSS Supervisor in close coordination with MEAL teams.
  • Arrange appointments for Save the Children staff as needed.

Other duties:

  • Ready to work to respond to any natural disaster or emergency anywhere in OPT.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College level education.
  • Social Work, pedagogy, psychology, education and non-formal education background will be appreciated.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Experience in working with children with age group of 9-16 years.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and handle a complex and varied workload.
  • Ability to contribute to a small team, motivate staff, work collaboratively with colleagues, and provide support and advice as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to significantly adjust working hours and collaborate with emergency teams coming from outside the sector.
  • Cooperate as needed with organization staff, both internationally and within the team environment.
  • Understand and commit to Save the Children’s vision and mission.
  • Ability to read and understand simple guidelines, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s values.
  • Ability to communicate in Arabic.

Desirable:

  • Any previous experience in working within the MHPSS programs.
  • Ability to use minimum level of English.
