icddr,b is inviting young, bright individuals, who are aspiring to develop their careers as public health researchers in the dynamic research environment, to apply for the position of Senior Research Investigator under the Maternal and Child Health Division. The appointment will be made on a Fixed-Term basis for 2 years which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.

Position Description:

The Senior Research Investigator will be required to play a pivotal role in planning, directing, and managing research activities as well as analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating research findings for programme and policy influence. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in research methodologies, critical thinking skills preferably using the lens of gender and diversity, and an ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. S/he should be proactive, dynamic, and capable of working independently.

The Senior Research Investigator will be responsible for the following:

  • Research Proposal and Protocol Development: Identify research ideas and develop research proposals that include a thorough research design and methodology, and apply for grant funding opportunities and secure funding. Develop research protocols, distribute drafts of them both internally and externally, get feedback and make necessary revisions, and obtain approval from icddr,b’s Finance department, Research Review Committee, and Ethical Review Committee.
  • Data Management, Knowledge Creation, and Translation: Critically assess data quality and integrity, conduct associative and advanced analysis, derive scientific inferences, generate new knowledge, and disseminate the findings to internal and external audiences as well as the Government stakeholders in the most comprehensible way. Use gender and diversity lens in the analysis and interpretation of research findings.
  • Scientific Writing and Publication: Conduct capacity development workshops and training sessions on scientific writing and publication for junior researchers of icddr,b. Actively participate in writing the research results and publish in international, peer-reviewed journals as first-author or senior author and/or corresponding author.
  • Project Management: Create a detailed project plan covering milestones and deliverables. Support the research team in monitoring project activities according to the milestones and deliverables and ensure strategy and plans for process documentation, and coach staff on how to address any relevant issues faced during fieldwork. Mentor young professionals and prepare them for higher responsibilities. Prepare and track the research budget efficiently. Secure financial and non-financial resources and track consumptions.

Required qualifications and experience:

Education and relevant experience:

  • An excellent academic record from a reputed University with having Master’s degree in Public Health/ Statistics/ Applied Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Epidemiology/ Economics/ Sociology/ Anthropology/ Development Studies/ Population Science/Gender Studies or MBBS with MPH
  • 8 years of working experience in public health (preferably in sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender and diversity research) with strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English. We are particularly interested in individuals with a mentionable track record in implementation science.

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Fixed Term; duration will be 2 years with a possibility of extension subject to performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Annual Tk. 1,888,370 inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
