JOB SUMMARY

 

Result of Service
Visibility for UNEP and Cool Coalition activities under the India Cooling Program and on the topics of sustainable cooling and extreme heat through creation and strategic dissemination of high-quality content on social media and other communication channels. Enhanced awareness on sustainable cooling across real estate sector, government, farmer groups, finance sector, citizens and industry. National government and state governments in India are supported to effectively communicate on sustainable cooling. International awareness on best practices and lessons learned from India on sustainable cooling are shared.

Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of this consultancy is to engage the services of a communications expert to enhance the visibility and outreach of UNEP’s India Cooling Program as part of the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and under the framework of the Cool Coalition. Specifically, the consultant is required to design communication strategy and campaign, coordinate technical inputs and develop communication materials, coordinate and plan awareness raising events, prepare visual media, prepare speeches, social media and communication pieces. The consultant will be under the Mitigation Branch of UNEP with significant liaison with UNEP Asia-Pacific Office.
Qualifications/special skills
University degree in communications, international relations or a related field is required. Academic background in environmental science is desirable. Knowledge of cooling and sustainable buildings is a plus. A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications is required. Experience working in a communications role in India is required. Experience with the United Nations system is desirable. Experience in designing and coordinating communication campaigns, outreach event design, social media, speechwriting, PowerPoint development and partnership development is desirable. Experience in graphic design and video development is a plus. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English and Hindi is required. Knowledge of another language would be an advantage, particularly Marathi and/or Tamil.
Additional Information
Specific knowledge: Has specific knowledge in designing effective communication strategies for reaching different stakeholder types. Possesses strong skills in synthesizing and communicating complex topics visually and orally and the ability to proactively seek inputs and lead consultations with a variety of stakeholders.
