UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined

UN WOMEN West & Central Africa Regional Office has been supporting multi-initiatives through programming, global advocacy and building strategic partners with national governments, civil society, UN agencies, and other bilateral and multilateral development organizations. In this process, UN WOMEN WCARO has contributed to building interest, capacity, and commitment to integrating Gender issues processes in the West
and Central Region. UN WOMEN Regional and country offices are supporting several other initiatives at regional and country levels and there is a need for visibility.
Reporting to the Regional Communication Specialist, the Regional Communication Analyst will support the development and implementation of the communication and advocacy strategies to enhance the visibility of UN Women’s work within the west and Central African region. S/he will be in charge of supporting the WCARO Communication Unit in developing key messages and managing its various digital platforms including the Regional Office website and social media accounts in order to reach out to _various audiences,
including media and program implementing partners and civil society organizations. S/he is responsible for timely, support to the regional commutation team in liaising with country offices and with other units within the regional office.
The results have a substantial impact on the effectiveness of UN Women’s regional communications, advocacy and outreach efforts, enhancing the visibility, raising awareness, and understanding of UN Women and its global mandate, thus helping ensure UN Women achieves its strategic goals.
Key Functions and Accountabilities
Support regional digital communication through the production and publication of communication support materials for public outreach ·
- Contributes to the development
and implementation of a communication and advocacy strategy of the Regional WCARO Office and its action plans.
- Contribute to the elaboration and updating of editorial calendars
- Oversees the management of regional website (technically and editorially) in line with the corporate digital policy, ensuring timely and engaging content
- Ensure the coordination and the web presence of multi-country and COs within the region and
- Oversees the management of regional social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy, ensuring timely and engaging content
- Ensure adequate support is provided to the country offices in developing and implementing their individual digital communication strategy.
- Provides and interpret web regular reports of web and social media analytics
- Contribute to the development and dissemination of high-quality communications materials; including drafting and editing of stories, brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, press releases, multimedia products to support WCARO Communication
- Support CO’s and MCO’s with their contents’ production, program documents and reports for donor review.
- Contribute to the documentation of UN Women WCARO’s impact through photography, videography and storytelling.
- Oversees the production and publication of compelling graphic designs to support UN Women WCARO communication efforts
Contribute to the organization and implementation of UN Women WCARO events, UN days commemoration
and campaigns ·
- Actively elaborate communications strategies for events, UN Days and major campaigns, e.g. International Women’s Day, CSW, 16 days of activism, Generation Equality, HeForShe
- Organize and coordinate the overall communication and media coverage for special events with a view to reaching wider audiences; Oversees the overall elaboration and dissemination of keys messages, conception and production of the support materials.
Overall Management of UN Women press and Media relations and strategic partnerships ·

- Organize activities with medias such as press conferences, briefings and interviews.
- Ensure the compilation of Media kits including the drafting of Press releases and advisories
- Establish MoUs and develop strong media relations through the organization of media specific events and training.
- Oversees media monitoring and reporting
- Prospect, establish and develop partnership with advocacy Civil society organizations, influencers and leaders, particularly youth and traditional leaders as strategic WCARO communication and advocacy partners
- Assist in building regional communities of Medias gender allies
Help support coordination of communication activities with Program Specialists and communications colleagues at regional /national country levels
- Contribute to supporting the visibility of Program activities, provide communications advice & support in the production and publications of materials.
- Help in communications and media training
of program teams
- Participate in on-boarding of all communication new staff at regional and country levels
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of information sharing with communication staff at national country level.
- Assist in liaising communication oft national country levels with HQ
Help Support ONE-UN COMMUNICATIONS & Advocacy efforts
- Ensure regular liaisons with Communications Officers from other UN entities at the regional / country levels to provide UN Women inputs to joint UN initiatives, collection of storytelling articles, and regional updates for information bulletins.
- Contribute and ensure gender streaming in all joined UN events and campaigns.
- Participate as
required to meetings and publics gatherings of UN Communication group
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Assist in the monitoring of media coverage and reach of digital communication, adjust as necessary to have true impact to communication and advocacy efforts within the region.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on communication metrics and outcomes

Recruitment Qualifications
Education and certification
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism or relevant field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience
2 years of experience in Communication, Public relations or Journalism, preferably in an international or regional context.
- Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, preferably with non-governmental organizations.
- Knowledge and understanding of social media and web 2.0 platforms, with demonstrated experience generating engaging content,
- Experience in storytelling, creating content for the web, for brochures and other communication materials.
- Experience working with the media nationally or regionally (Desired)
- Experience working on issues related to development, especially in Africa (Desired)
- Experience in editing documents, reports, publications (desired)
- Knowledge of gender equality issues and women empowerment principles is an asset.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in French and English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
