JOB SUMMARY

Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications’ objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes. This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies.

These programmes are supported by eight laboratories in Seibersdorf, three in Monaco and one in Vienna. They support and implement activities

that respond to the developmental needs of Member States through applied research and development, training and capacity-building, and technical and analytical services.

The operating environment is dynamic, interactive and participative with continuous inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy- and decision-makers, as well as counterparts in Member States and in the international development community.

Main Purpose

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Operations and Outreach Coordinator, the Outreach and Operations Officer supports the Laboratory Coordination Group in the following areas:

Outreach activities
• gathers and analyses information for the preparation of outreach material and brochures promoting services

offered by the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories, including capacity building programmes and technical services;
• plans and coordinates guided visits to the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories and develops scripts detailing the work of the laboratories adapted to the target audiences to raise awareness about the benefits from the peaceful uses of nuclear applications;
• consolidates and evaluates IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories’ input to NA’s Programme and Partnership Officer on matters related to activities of the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories in support of fundraising activities with potential donors and partners.

Efficiencies in operations
• supports the Laboratory Coordination Group in the development of Standard

Operating Procedures on Administrative issues, and identification and implementation of training opportunities for NA Staff at the Laboratories.

Role

The Outreach and Operations Officer is: (a) a team member collaboratively working with other NA staff to implement outreach activities reaching a large range of target audiences and engaging interest in capacity building programmes and services that the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories are offering; (b) a communicator, able to adapt the language and approaches to explain complex and scientific concepts to various audiences including visors to NA-laboratories and potential partners; and (c) substantive contributor developing SOPs on relevant managerial, operational

and administrative matters, and planning and organizing training activities for staff of the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Under the guidance of the Laboratory Operations and Outreach Coordinator and in collaboration with NA Programme Managers, Section Heads, Laboratory Heads, Technical Officers and other relevant staff, the Outreach and Operations Officer prepares outreach and promotional material including the curricula of trainings offered by NA-Laboratories, catalogue of laboratory services, and tailored presentations for visitors.

In collaboration with the Programme and Partnership Officer assists with identifying key outreach opportunities and consolidates and evaluates inputs related to activities of the

IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories to reach diverse stakeholders, including non-traditional donors.

Supports identification and utilization of efficiencies in operations through developing SOPs on relevant managerial, operational and administrative matters, and plans and organizes training activities for staff of the IAEA’s Nuclear Applications Laboratories.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $64121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 37960*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health
