Under general supervision by the Property Management Officer, the Claims Assistant will be responsible for the following duties; • Provide administrative support to the Supervisor of the Unit.
• Review and ascertain claimants’ cases.
• Investigation of claims cases in coordination with claimants, ensuring sufficient documentation regarding liabilities upon which LCRB may take recommendations. • Ensure effective and efficient operation of the Claims & Property Survey Team. • Prepare property survey files and schedule periodic LPSB meetings and compilation of cases. • Coordinate the preparation of Maintenance Cost (MC), Administrative Write-Offs and Survey Board cases. • Updating case files in Umoja and maintaining relevant supporting documents for appropriate audit trail.
• Maintaining accurate Claims records in electronic and hardcopy.
• Process compensation claim cases for presentation to Claims Review Board (CRB) through the Unit Supervisor. • Prepare correspondences to claimants, lawyers, insurance companies and others other parties or stakeholders in claims and property survey cases. • Review, create and analyze database reports. • Participate in claim survey missions (on-site visits) within the area of operation, in order to verify discrepancies, contradictions in evidence, or to secure additional information.
• Prepare and disseminate recommendations and approvals of LCRB, LPSB or Head of Liquidation Team to concerned parties for action and follow-up on those actions to be taken.
• Strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for mentoring, training and capacity-building when working with or supervising national staff. • Perform other related duties defined by the direct supervisor and by the Claims Officer. • Perform any other duties as assigned

At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in claims, property survey, legal or paralegal related functions preferably in the United Nations or other international organization is required.
Experience working with United Nations Rules, Regulations, Manuals and Policy is desirable.
Experience in property survey and claims management during liquidation of a large field operation is desirable. Experience in Business Intelligence and data analytics/visualization is desirable.
• This Position is temporarily available within the UN Liquidation Entity (MINUSMA) until 30 November 2024, subject to budget approval.
If the selected candidate is an internal staff member of the UN Secretariat, the selection will be recorded as a temporary assignment.
