JOB SUMMARY

 

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs.

DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for an English Teacher for its activities in Mykolaiv.

About the job

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Mykolaiv is looking for an English Teacher who will enable staff members of the organization to improve their English language skills, fostering effective communication within the organization.

This position will report to the Support Services Manager.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design and deliver English language courses for staff members of the Danish Refugee Council in Mykolaiv, ensuring effective language acquisition and communication skills development.
  • Assess and accommodate different proficiency levels among learners.
  • Tailor instruction to various proficiency levels: Customize lesson plans and materials to accommodate learners with varying levels of English proficiency, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Customize lesson plans and materials to meet individual learning needs.
  • Improve cross-cultural communication within the organization.
  • Enhance staff collaboration and effectiveness in achieving the organization’s mission.
  • Implement innovative teaching strategies and teaching materials.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner progress.
  • Train and prepare staff to obtain English language certification as needed.

Additional responsibilities (10%):

  • Provision of interpretation between national and international DRC staff, as well as with government officials if needed.
  • Participate in trainings and interpret training materials/tools, communications, etc.
  • Respond to occasional and urgent requests for interpretation as agreed with line manager.

About you

To be successful in the role of English Teacher we expect you to have at least 3 years of workexperience in English Teaching.

Also we expect the following:

  • Interpreting experience will be an advantage.
  • Adaptability to tailor instruction to different learning styles and levels.
  • Strong communication skills.

 

  • Stress resistance and a positive attitude towards tasks.
  • High professional ethics and understanding of privacy policy.
  • Certification in relevant teaching qualifications will be an advantage.

We offer

Contract length: open ended contract after 3 month probation period.
Level: H – Non-Management
Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv – Full time based
Start date: As soon as possible.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment fornational staff.
