JOB SUMMARY

 

Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The Communication Division communicates the core messages of UNEP to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of the organization worldwide. This post is in the Communication Division at the Nairobi duty station.

Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Digital Strategy Section, and the direct supervision of the Head of Web Platforms, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities

1. Website strategy, development and maintenance: – Contribute to the development of a cutting-edge web communication strategy for the corporate website(s) and child/affiliated sites and pages to ensure these are aligned with the organization’s mandate, objectives and brand identity.

– Manage the development, maintenance and enhancement of the organization’s websites and pages, ensuring these remain functional, intuitive, user-friendly and technically efficient.

– Set compatibility and technical standards that ensure site accessibility for all users, including in languages. – Guide web developers, designers and service providers in implementing technical solutions and improvements. – Provide technical support to internal stakeholders and end-users regarding website functionality, navigation and content management system usage. – Troubleshoot technical issues, bugs and errors to ensure smooth operation of the websites.

– Collaborate with IT support teams or external vendors to address more complex technical challenges, services and subscriptions required and facilitate deployment of new applications.

2. Business analysis and quality assurance: – Conduct business analysis, process mapping and requirements elicitation to identify the needs and priorities of internal stakeholders and define business requirements for websites, campaign sites and other pages. – Validate and translate business requirements into application functionality, specifications, project documentation and workplans. – Engage in conceptualization of new products and solutions, using innovation, design thinking and prototyping.

– Serve as focal point for internal stakeholders, ensuring website content and functionality meet business objectives and align with overall strategies and are regularly updated in languages.

– Work closely with graphic designers, UX/UI specialists, and content creators to maintain visual consistency, usability and branding across the website. – Provide specialized training to team members, content providers and website users on content management best practices, CMS usage, website protocols and templates to raise awareness of the role of the website in enhancing user engagement and growth of UNEP’s audiences.

3. Content strategy and management: – Develop and implement a comprehensive web content strategy that aligns with the organization’s objectives and target audience.

– Institute an effective and efficient workflow process and content management system, coordinating page/feature development and implementation, editing and translation. – Source high-quality content for the website, ensuring that content is accurate, engaging, SEO optimized, and adheres to brand guidelines. – Conduct regular quality control to ensure conformity with branding, theming and templates and consistent presentation across various web pages by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout.

– Monitor feedback and respond appropriately by enhancing existing and leading the development of new and specialized sections and webpages.

– Develop organic and paid digital marketing strategies that drive messaging and engagement around the triple planetary crisis and related campaigns. – Guide creation of plan and oversee campaigns across various digital channels, including search engines, Google/Bing paid search and YouTube. 4. Performance monitoring and optimization: – Create a measurement framework to track the performance of websites, web pages and campaigns and oversee monitoring and reporting on the performance.

– Monitor website performance metrics such as traffic, engagement and conversion rates using analytics tools.

– Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, opportunities to enhance user experience, increase traffic and drive business outcomes. – Oversee the reporting process, providing performance insights on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as well as on specific campaigns. – Implement optimization strategies based on insights gathered, such as A/B testing, SEO improvements and usability enhancements. – Conduct market research and analyze trends to identify new opportunities to improve web and campaign performance.

– Stay up to date with emerging digital marketing trends and technologies.

• Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education

Advanced University Degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in software engineering, computer science or information systems, communication, public information, or other related fields is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with the two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Job – Specific Qualification
Accreditation in a formal project management methodology (e.g. Prince2 or Project Management Institute certification) is desirable.
Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in managing web development and management for a large science-based organization or related organization is required.

Experience in managing medium to large-scale technical projects in a multistakeholder environment is required.

Experience in content management systems such as Drupal and web content coordination is required. Experience managing a team is desirable. Experience in digital media strategy, transformation and campaigns and other avenues of public information is desirable. Experience in at least one project management tool (e.g. MS project) is desirable. A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working knowledge of the United Nations Secretariat.

For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable. NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in two of the four
