JOB DESCRIPTION

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women work in Ukraine focuses on supporting the government and civil society in advancing gender equality and implementation of the national and international commitments on gender equality and women’s human rights.

UN Women Ukraine implements interventions towards the realization of following strategic goals: elimination of violence against women and girls; implementation of women, peace and security agenda and gender responsive governance. UN Women works closely with the UN Country Team in integration of women’s rights and gender equality in all spheres of UN work.

Since the beginning of the Russian full scale military invasion, Ukraine is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most complex emergencies.

The communications and advocacy activities will raise awareness about existing problems in achieving gender equality, celebrate women’s leadership and inclusion, feature real-life stories from women and men, girls and boys that promote equality by means of compelling content, impactful media collaborations, influencer engagement, and digital communication tools, alongside the evidence generated through various knowledge products.

Where possible, efforts will also be aligned with government communications activities to leverage momentum and opportunities for reaching wider audiences.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Communications and Advocacy Analyst, and the Communications Team or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Communications Associate will:

• Drafting communication materials: press releases, talking points, human impact stories jointly with project specialists, other communication products as required;
• Development, coordination and execution of the communications campaigns and events, special media projects
• Content development (print, video) and design for different channels, coordination of the content distribution on UN Women platforms and partner/media platforms;
• Develop and manage the UN Women Ukraine CO website, provide oversight and quality assurance into its contents based on corporate requirements;
• Manage the CO social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy;
• Draft content for the CO social media accounts and website, adapt regional and HQ content for the CO usage;
• Produce digital content including photography and video for different social media platforms and CO website in Ukrainian and English;
• Produce regular analytics of the UN Women Ukraine social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram);
• Under supervision of the communications team, provide timely submission of multimedia products and knowledge products to the regional communications channels;
• Provide support to the communications team to develop, edit and translate the narratives for the Ukraine and Regional Office websites into English and Ukrainian language, including but not limited to stories, news releases, announcements, articles, subtitles to videos, and more;
• Provide support to the communications team on operational and administrative tasks;
• Manage stationary storage, manage design and production of the necessary supplies of UN Women
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor to support communication activities of the UN Women office.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work.

As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs:

• As an active UN Women team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UN Women and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
o An uninterrupted launch and operations of the CO website is ensured;
o Timely production of social media assets and supporting texts, timely scheduling and posting in accordance with the UN Women social media policy and communications requirements are ensured;
o Submission of monthly social media analytics reports with respective comments and recommendations is ensured;
o Support to professional production of multimedia materials and timely submission of UN Women communications products on the country, regional and HQ level are provided;
o Quality writing, editing and translation of communications materials from/to English and Ukrainian language are provided
o Continuous and professional support to the communications team upon their requests is provided;

• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;

• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

• Advanced skills in graphic design, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier or similar, Canva, and more, social media video production/editing/subtitling
• Familiarity with Drupal, HTML, Readymag is strong asset
• Experience in coordinating multimedia production (photo, video, digital media);
• Proficiency in English and Ukrainian is mandatory (English –advanced/proficient, C1/C2)
• Experience in writing and editing communications texts in English and Ukrainian
• Ability to produce creative solutions, and operate under strict deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and sociall sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
• Have affinity with or interest in human rights, gender equality, women’s rights, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

The contract lasts for the period indicated in the vacancy with the possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance.

However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. This is a full-time contract.

Allowances:
• Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) USD 1587 (equivalent in UAH) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and normal cost of living expenses. This includes Well-Being Differentials for the period while the ICSC applies hardship classification to duty stations in Ukraine as “E”.
• USD 400 entry lump sum, one-time payment.

Medical and life insurance:
• Medical insurance: The UN Volunteer and eligible PFU dependents will receive UNV provided medical insurance coverage.

Coverage for UN Volunteers begins from the Commencement of Service and normally ceases one month after the last day of the UN Volunteer Contract date.
• Life Insurance: UN Volunteers are covered by life insurance for the duration of the UN Volunteer assignment. If a UN Volunteer dies during the UN Volunteer assignment, the eligible designated beneficiaries will be entitled to receive a life insurance lump sum.

Leave entitlements:
• Annual leave:  UN Volunteers accrue an entitlement to 2.5 days of Annual Leave per completed month of the UN Volunteer assignment.

Unused accrued Annual Leave up to a maximum of 30 days is carried over in case of a contract extension within the same UN Volunteer assignment. Unused accrued Annual Leave may not be carried over in case of reassignment or a new assignment.
• Learning leave: Subject to supervisor approval and exigencies of service, UN Volunteers may request up to ten working days of Learning Leave per consecutive 12 months of the UN Volunteer assignment, starting with the Commencement of Service date, provided the Learning Leave is used within the contract period.
• Certified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle.

This amount is reset every 12-month cycle.
• Uncertified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers receive seven days of uncertified sick leave working days in a calendar year. This amount will be reset at the established interval period.
