INTERNSHIP TOPIC
Policy research on the effectiveness of school meal programs (global best practice) and their applicability in Pakistan and Afghanistan
2. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
• Collect the data on past and on-going school meal programs (policies and practice of select global experiences)
• Prepare a research plan (desk study)
• Conduct research and analysis (policies and practice) on validity and impact of school meal programs in Pakistan: comparison of modality/operation mechanism, targeting including geographic focus and gender, service providers, accessibility and availability including equipment and trained staff, community engagement, nutrition, impact on school attendance, program evaluation and sustainability including funding
• Prepare a draft research paper and present findings including recommendations of key success factors for school meal programs and their applicability in Pakistan and Afghanistan at the team’s meeting
• Finalize a research paper and present findings at the brownbag lunch

PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT:
• Duration: 8 weeks
• Timing: January 2025 onwards

ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines
5. EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• Final outcome is the policy research on the effectiveness of school meal programs for Pakistan and Afghanistan. The recommendations will be prepared for ADB to develop a school meal program in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Qualifications
6. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Currently enrolled in a graduate program (master’s degree, PhD) in Education, Social Sciences or Economics
• Intern must be enrolled at a school in one of the ADB member countries for the entire duration of the internship.
7.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Research/field work in education sector, and practical experiences including volunteer work and teaching at schools would be an asset
