JOB SUMMARY

Internship at the Independent Evaluation Department Thematic and Country Division (IED/IETC)

INTERNSHIP TOPIC
Assessing the Interim Results of ADB Operations Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals

2. SUMAARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
With the 2030 deadline of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fast approaching, the 2026 Annual Evaluation Review (AER) will dedicate its theme chapter to assessing the interim results of ADB operations supporting the SDGs. The intern will help the AER team:
(i)identify and quantify possible inconsistencies or trade-offs between and among SDG indicators;
(ii)analyze achievement of SDG indicators by sub-regions in Asia and the Pacific over time;
(iii)identify critical factors affecting countries’ or sub-regions’ achievement of SDG indicators in the Asia-Pacific region; and
(iv)examine the pillars of sustainability (i.e., economic, social, and environmental) most effective for the achievement ofSDGs across countries or sub-regions in Asia and the Pacific.

3.PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT
• Duration: 11 weeks
• Timing: January 2025 onwards

ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines

5.EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Background paper utilizing econometric analysis to identify possible inconsistencies or trade-offs between and among SDG indicators, achievement of SDG indicators by sub-regions in Asia and the Pacific over time, critical factors affecting countries’ or subregions’ achievement of SDG indicators over time, and pillars of sustainability (i.e., economic, social, and environmental) most effective for the achievement of SDGs across counties or sub-regions in Asia and the Pacific.

Qualifications

6.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Master’s/Ph.D.

candidate in economics or related fields.

• Intern must be enrolled at a school in one of the ADB member countries for the entire duration of the internship.

7.RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Experience in undertaking economic research is a must. Familiarity with ADB processes is desirable.
