JOB SUMMARY

 

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs.

DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Protection Officer on Legal Analysis in Kyiv.

About the Job

You will conduct legal research, analysis, and advocacy on issues affecting displaced populations.

Key responsibilities include drafting legal materials, facilitating discussions, and contributing to advocacy efforts. The role requires some travel to field locations and involves working on the legal content of DRC Legal Alerts and the DRC Digital Legal Platform.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be

Research and Analysis:

  • Research and analyze laws and practices relevant to DRC’s work.
  • Draft legal materials such as position papers and briefing notes.
  • Organize and facilitate discussions and workshops on legal issues.
  • Contribute to proposals, reports, and DRC legal alerts.
  • Provide training on legal issues for lawyers and other stakeholders.
  • Develop reports and analytical tools related to IDP rights, housing, land, property (HLP) rights, and gender-based violence (GBV) response.

Coordination and Advocacy:

  • Work with field lawyers on pilot cases and strategic litigation.
  • Attend advocacy and working group meetings.
  • Engage with stakeholders including international humanitarian organizations, state institutions and the public sector.
  • Represent DRC in various forums and advocate for vulnerable populations.

Additional Duties:

  • Provide legal support to other DRC departments.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to at least 2 years in legal research and analysis, preferably on IDP rights, HLP, GBV, or humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Graduate degree in Law or related field; advanced degree or specialization is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Ukrainian legal framework, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian/Russian, upper intermediate professional proficiency in English.

We offer:

  • Contract length: 12 months, with a 3-month probation period.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv.

  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
