The GGGI Qatar Country Program, hosted at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) of the State of Qatar, is scaling up its activities to provide advisory and implementation support to Qatar in climate resilience and green growth projects in cooperation with MECC and relevant national and international stakeholders.

GGGI is inviting applications for an internship position within the Qatar program.

The GGGI internship program offers a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

The GGGI Qatar program is seeking talented and motivated individuals to provide support in program’s climate change adaptation efforts.

This opportunity is ideal for those who are passionate about climate change and environmental sustainability issues and wish to gain hands-on experience in national climate change adaptation efforts within an International Organization.

The assignment will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Work closely with the Green Growth Project Officer and project team in the day-to-day implementation of the climate adaptation activities of the Qatar Program.
  • Support the development of Qatar’s National Adaptation Plan and engage in data research, content writing and drafting inputs to technical reports and communication materials.
  • Provide translation services covering English and Arabic to facilitate the project communication and implementation.
  • Assist in coordinating requirements for meetings, workshops and capacity building events related to logistics, participants confirmation, presentation materials, among others.
  • Assist in reviewing, editing, and proofreading GGGI knowledge products, technical reports, training and communication materials in line with GGGI guidelines.
ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must, at the time of application, meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Must possess legal right to work in Qatar.

For international applicants, a valid visa permitting work or internship in the State of Qatar is required.

  • Proficiency in English and Arabic is essential.
  • Applicants must be available to commit to the full internship duration as agreed with the supervising staff.

 

QUALIFICATION
  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in environmental science, climate science, urban planning, environmental policy, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic are required, as the role involves translation tasks.
  • Strong ability to draft technical reports and communication materials.
  • Prior experience in national adaptation planning within an International Organization is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A strong interest in environmental issues, sustainable development, and green growth initiatives.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
  • Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

TEMRS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months.

Once selected, interns must begin their internship either before or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.

Visa: If needed, GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any unpublished information obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours.

Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
