Resilient and agile national statistical systems: Improving Production and Communication of SDG Data to Leave No One Behind through modernization and improved coordination. Within delegated authority, the Statistical Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Assists in data collection, compilation, and dissemination, including the use of web scraping and APIs for automated data capturing.
• Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and loads data into a computerized database system. • Produces estimates and aggregates based on processing large microdata. Ensures disclosure protection and confidentiality of individual micro data sets. • Generates advanced graphs, tables, and statistical maps to facilitate further review and analysis of data by colleagues or for reports and official publications. • Participates in the review and compilation of background materials, e.g., previous survey material and results.
• Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity, and validity. • Compiles statistical series for comparison against estimates. • Updates statistical series in established electronic formats. Applies new data and derived statistics. • Assists in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases and data dissemination portals and dashboards. • Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information. • Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
