Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: i) Conduct research on space applications for sustainable development related to the six thematic areas covered by the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development, namely: (a) disaster risk management; (b) natural resource management; (c) connectivity; (d) social development; (e) energy; and (f) climate change. Research inputs will be used to develop various knowledge products, including UN publications, working and technical papers and the contributions of the interns will be duly acknowledged; ii) Assist in developing and/or updating digital platforms and multi-media content; iii) Provide support in the implementation of capacity development projects; and iv) Support the team in their day-to-day activities and tasks.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS teams. Applicants’ training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Strong research and writing skills are preferable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
