JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Accounting Assistants will be responsible for the following duties: • Records and reconciles more complex accounting transactions. • Examines and records bank transactions. • Reconciles more complex bank accounts in various currencies. • Sets up receivables of benefits to retirees/beneficiaries. • Assists in recovering pension overpayments from retirees/beneficiaries. • Reviews and reconciles pension contribution discrepancies for resolution. • Assist in updating pension participants’ records. • Drafts/prepares write off memoranda and faxes to various offices, departments and retirees/beneficiaries.
• Responds to queries from staff members and third parties. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as may be required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, administrative services or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. A minimum of one (1) year of financial or operational work experience in a post-employment benefit plan is desirable. Experience in Integrated Pension Administration System (IPAS) or a similar ERP system is desirable. Experience working with the UN common system or other comparable international organizations is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
