JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities
 Within limits of delegated authority, the consultant will support the implementation of the CREWS Horn of Africa project in Somalia. The project aims to improve the governance, understanding of risks and the capacity to address disaster risks at national and local levels in Somalia to better prepare for and respond to disasters, reduce vulnerabilities, loss of life and economic damages. The consultant will work closely with international form on board- CIMA Research Foundation to ensure efficient and effective implementation of project activities The National project Coordinator will carry out the following duties: • Coordinate all project-related activities and monitor progress as per the project action plans. – Follow-up and ensure that activities are implemented in an effective and timely manner.- Coordinate, maintain and initiate effective dialogue with key stakeholders at the local and national levels that are involved in the project implementation. • Ensure effective communication between local and national governments, implementing partners and UNDRR.
• Facilitate consultations between the government, stakeholder groups and implementing partners on the national and local levels. • Participate in all relevant meetings, field visits, workshops, and training activities planned and organized under the project. • Develop monthly updates on activities and submit to UNDRR-Regional Office for Arab States • Identify project opportunities, challenges and contribute to the refinement and adjustment of the project timeline, where necessary and under the supervision of UNDRR-ROAS. • Ensure project best practices and lessons learned are captured and disseminated, complying with the quality requirements of UNDRR.
Qualifications/special skills
• Advanced university degree in Development, Environmental Affairs, or subjects related to Disaster Risk Management is required. • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree • A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in Disaster Risk Management or any related field is required. • Experience in research and stakeholder engagement is required. • Experience in policy and strategy design, disaster risk reduction legislation, or capacity building is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic or French is desirable.
