JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision or overall guidance of Economics Officer: The intern will support the team in the analysis of economic, social and environmental qualitative and quantitative data and information on the overall areas of: trade relations and trade policies; productive policies; the nexus of social, environmental and technological agendas with trade agendas; policies and agreements involving Central American countries; global value chains and Central America’s access to higher value-added activities; and other relevant areas of substantive research. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
– Finding, analyzing and visualizing qualitative and quantitative data and information. – Contribute to the drafting, editing and analysis of materials for the team, including in the form of literature reviews and summaries of relevant publications. – Presenting research findings, proposing new or emerging topics, and exchanging ideas with colleagues. – Assist in additional tasks, including researching guest speakers for events, providing logistical support for meetings and preparing minutes.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Ability to find, analyze and visualize qualitative and quantitative data and information is required. Ability to draft inputs and prepare presentations is required. Good knowledge of trade policies, productive policies, and global value chains is desirable. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams is desirable. To be majoring in the areas of economics, international trade or international relations is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English or Spanish is required.
