JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities
 The intern will support the PoC Team with the following tasks: • Contribute to the review and development of policy, guidance, papers, and other analytical documents on POC. • Contribute to liaising with peacekeeping operations with POC mandate and support the preparation of meetings, events, talks, visits, meetings, telecons, VTCs, etc. • Assist in preparing talking points, speeches, draft reports and other products related to POC. • Develop and refine presentations on POC in Peacekeeping for various audiences. • Represent the POC team in meetings, events and workshops and take notes and provide readouts. • Assist in data collection, data analysis and information and database management, including management of the POC team SharePoint, excel docs and mission fact sheets.
• Liaise with and provide support to external actors (e.g. academics, think tanks, NGOs) engaged on POC in peacekeeping. • Assist in drafting the POC quarterly newsletter. • Assistance in conducting research and collecting data and statistical analysis on relevant subjects and areas where additional work on POC would be beneficial. This includes analyzing country-specific context on POC to capture lessons learned, challenges, threats and opportunities of the UN peace operations and POC mandates. • Assistance in servicing conferences and meetings and training activities. • Compile and maintain contact list of internal and external interlocutors. • Develop and maintain profiles of Member States. • Proofreading/copyediting of team documents. • Develop communications products, including layout, design, dissemination, etc. • Perform any other roles and responsibilities as requested by the Team.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Experience in preparing, editing, and/or translating policy documents and communication products is desirable. Experience in and supporting the organization of events is desirable.
Experience in data visualization and multimedia (i.e. working on podcasts, videos, etc) and in developing communication products is desirable. Candidates for the UN Internship Programme are required to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
