JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities
The MSC plans, coordinates and interfaces with all mandated clients – African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), the Somali Security Forces (SSF) and any other supported entity – to provide timely and effective logistics support. Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer at this level will be responsible for the following duties: • Coordinates and provides logistics support to ongoing operations in the area. • Identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations. • Provides and coordinates logistics support to military, security and substantive components of the mission, including ATMIS and SSF. • Drafts and coordinates logistics plans and other documents supporting the implementation of logistics operations, as directed by Head of Unit or Section Chief.
• Drafts and coordinates (inputs to) logistics reports, presentations, decision briefs, briefing notes, and other information documents required by the management, including inputs required by the UNHQ. • Liaises and coordinates logistics support with other sections within UNSOS, such as transportation, communications, movement control and procurement, and with clients. • Coordinates logistics requirements with other UN and other organizations in the Mission, and Host Government entities. • Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained. • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. Previous experience in UN peacekeeping missions, UN common system or related international organizations is desirable. Experience in planning , managing and coordinating complex logistics projects in volatile, conflict, or post-conflict environment is desirable. Experience in report writing and presentation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
