The purpose of the Area Manager position is to ensure high quality and cost-effective programme/project implementation within the designated geographical area.

What you will do:

Generic responsibilities:

  1. Line management for senior project staff and support functions (and Field Office Coordinators) in the area
  2. Member of the Country Management Group (CMG)
  3. Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  4. Provide area specific input on CC strategies, Country Strategy and Plan of Action
  5. Organize grants opening and closure meetings at area level

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for conflict-sensitive programming
  2. Ensue beneficiaries led design and implementation of projects and activities including beneficiary complaints mechanism are strengthened
  3. In liaison with the Programme Development unit ensure that systems for monitoring and evaluating project activities are developed and implemented
  4. Ensure that NRC’s finance procedures, guidelines and systems are properly implemented and are respected
  5. Ensure ongoing check and review mechanism in place for the control and stock system of goods, vehicles and transport coordination and make any necessary improvements
  6. Oversee and coordinate administrative and logistical requests made by the projects for optimal cost efficiency and utilization of resources
  7. Develop relationships with donor teams and agencies in the area, and contribute to securing sufficient finances for the program me

What you will bring

Generic professional competencies for this position: 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a Senior Project Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • All employees of the Norwegian Refugee Council should be able to adhere to our Codes of Conduct and the four organizational values: Dedicated, innovative, inclusive and accountable
  • Understanding of the humanitarian context and related humanitarian/ donor architecture in Somalia will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
