JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Team Leader, who is also the SG Health and Safety Coordinator, the Safeguards Safety Specialist provides support in the preparation, coordination and implementation of departmental initiatives related to SG specific operational health and safety, including radiation safety, and provides professional advice and services on occupational health and safety to the Department.

Role

The Safeguards Safety Specialist is: (1) a subject matter expert supporting and monitoring operational radiation safety and industrial health and safety for SG activities (2) a team member, assisting the SG Health and Safety Coordinator and other members of the SG Health and Safety Sub-committee (SG SHS) in the development and update of safety guidance and tools supporting the implementation of departmental processes related to radiation safety and occupational health and safety (3) a facilitator, supporting SG Radiation Protection Officers by providing them relevant guidance and training.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Participate and support the SG Health and Safety Coordinator in preparing the SG SHS meetings and activities.
Contribute to the preparation of operational guidance, provide expert support and advice on Occupational H&S and radiation safety matters and develop and implement expert level training on these subjects for SG staff.
Record, follow up, investigate and report H&S incidents/accidents and near miss, monitor the status of actions planned as a result of those investigations, collect lessons learned and disseminate them across the SG Department.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree – University degree in science, technology, engineering or any other relevant discipline required.
  • Other – Professional and certified knowledge of Industrial Safety principles and implementation required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the field of occupational radiation protection or industrial safety management.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing training in industrial safety management and/or radiation protection and safety.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and efficiently in multidisciplinary/multicultural teams with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
