Scope of Work:

The Trainer with a Disability will play a key role in the HMA EORE Training of Trainers (ToT) by providing specialized sessions and insights on how to support individuals with disabilities during crises and conflicts. The trainer will work closely with the main facilitators to ensure that training materials and practices are inclusive and effective for all participants.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited, to the following:

  • Specialized Training Sessions:
  1. Deliver sessions focusing on people with disabilities during crises and conflicts, covering strategies to enhance support and inclusion.
  2. Collaborate with main facilitators to integrate sessions on diversity and inclusion into the overall ToT curriculum.
  • Material Development:
  1. Provide insights on how to develop and adapt training materials to cover a wide range of disabilities effectively.
  2. Assist in developing presentations and other materials to ensure they are accessible and inclusive.
  • Best Practices Training:
  1. Train staff on best practices for interacting with people with disabilities, including what to do and what to avoid.
  2. Share practical tips and guidance on accommodating various types of disabilities in crisis situations.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Insights:
  1. Offer a comprehensive understanding of different types of disabilities and how they impact individuals in crises.
  2. Advise on how to enhance the diversity and inclusion aspects of training materials and program design.
  • Mediator Role:
  1. Act as a mediator between staff and participants to address and resolve any sensitivities or issues that may arise.
  2. Ensure that the training environment is respectful and supportive for all participants.
  • Additional Support:
  1. Provide feedback on the effectiveness of training materials and suggest improvements based on practical experience and expertise.
  2. Support logistical arrangements and other aspects of the ToT as needed to ensure successful delivery.

To be successful in this role we expect you to

  • Experience and expertise in working with individuals with disabilities, particularly in crisis and conflict settings.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training on diversity, inclusion, and best practices for interacting with people with disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of different types of disabilities and their impact on individuals in emergency situations.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to mediate and resolve sensitivities.
  • Experience in creating or adapting training materials to be inclusive and accessible.

Desirable

  • Previous experience with INGOs.
