JOB DESCRIPTION

Description

IFC — a member of the World Bank Group — is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities. Our mission is to leverage the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.

IFC offers long-term financing and industry-leading expertise to develop infrastructure projects that provide essential services — including electricity, telecommunications, transportation, water, and sanitation — in partnership with the private sector. As part of the World Bank Group, IFC works with governments and development partners to create a business environment that attracts private capital to infrastructure sectors.

The Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory (SIA) team, part of the infrastructure department, collaborates with companies and other stakeholders to build and support sustainability capabilities (around diversity, inclusion and climate), which in turn strengthens their environmental, social, and governance performance and IFC’s development impact. Through strategic partnerships, SIA supports companies with diagnostics, analysis, and advice on strategy and implementation.

IFC’s SIA group is seeking a dynamic Operations Officer, with experience on sustainability topics (especially diversity, inclusion and/or climate), project management, business development, and communications skills to support SIA work in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

•  Identify and refine client opportunities and contribute to building a pipeline of advisory engagements to support Infra clients, clearly articulating the business case for sustainability.
•  Draft a clear business case and value proposition on sustainability topics (climate, diversity, and inclusion) in energy, mining, transport, and TMT sectors in LAC.
•  Design and deliver sustainability focused advisory projects or brief transaction engagements (climate, diversity, and inclusion).
•  Ensure efficient resource management to effectively deliver advisory solutions for clients, including coordinating the roles and responsibilities of team members and consultants involved in project delivery.
•  Oversee and ensure comprehensive project management, encompassing procurement, budgeting, reporting, risk and due diligence assessments, and administration tasks, as needed.
•  Develop and lead the generation of knowledge products that strengthen IFC’s position as a thought leader in sustainability and Infrastructure. Contribute to the ideation, production and review of knowledge pieces including analytical work.
•  Provide analysis on sustainability opportunities across Infrastructure sectors (e.g., energy, mining, transport, water, waste, and TMT sectors etc.) and coordinate the preparation and delivery of presentations.
•  Systematize successful client experiences that have the potential to be scalable.
•  Codesign capacity building and knowledge events on sustainability (climate, diversity, and inclusion) and Infra in LAC activities for internal and external stakeholders.
•  Play a key role in the identification of new market trends in sustainability and shape corresponding solutions for Infra clients.
•  Support donor funding efforts by preparing pitches, funding proposals, and coordinating the preparation of reports, etc.
•  Look for opportunities to collaborate across WBG, advisory, investment, upstream and country teams to leverage IFC’s expertise around sustainability.
•  Participate in industry workshops, roundtables and conferences sharing IFC’s experiences with clients and relevant stakeholders.
•  Contribute to written SIA communication efforts.
•  Identify and maintain external networks that can be leveraged for Infrastructure clients.

Selection Criteria

•  Master’s degree in business, finance, public policy, economics or engineering or an area of expertise specific to environmental or social sustainability.
•  At least ten years of relevant private sector experience in advisory, or business consulting services with a focus on sustainability. Experience with Sustainable Finance is a plus.
•  Demonstrated experience in infrastructure sectors, including energy, mining, transport, waste and water, and TMT in Latin America countries.
•  Strong understanding of sustainability topics (climate, diversity and/or inclusion) as they relate to private sector investment and development.
•  Proven experience in corporate-level sustainability risk and opportunity assessment.
•  Proven history in designing, implementing, and managing advisory projects using innovative approaches, including demonstrated ability to uphold operational procedures.
•  Demonstrated experience managing research and operational activities specifically related to sustainability (climate, diversity and/ or inclusion) for infrastructure sectors.
•  Experience working and developing solid relationships and negotiating with a wide variety of stakeholders, including private sector, governmental, and non-governmental organizations.
•  High level of energy, initiative, and flexibility in quickly adjusting to changing work project requirements. Strong critical thinking skills, with critical thinking.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills, with a proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary team, under minimum supervision.
•  Ability to travel and to manage a large workload, balance and prioritize competing demands under high pressure.
•  Fluent in English with proficiency in either Spanish or Portuguese; additional proficiency in both languages is a plus.
