JOB DESCRIPTION

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Among the 10 UN Women offices present in West and Central Africa (WCARO), UN Women Senegal is based in Dakar, Senegal, and works with the government, civil society organizations (CSOs), other UN agencies and the private sector to help achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in Senegal.

Based on UN Women Senegal’s strategic note 2024-2028, the organization focuses its efforts on the following key themes: i) governance, leadership, and women’s political participation; ii) women’s economic empowerment and iii) the elimination of violence against women and girls; iv) women, peace, security and security action. In addition to these thematic areas, within the framework of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2019-2023, the UN Women office plays a leading coordination role within the UN country team in Senegal about gender mainstreaming issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize, compile, and process documentation and information from partners, and programme team as inputs to various databases and documents.
  • Provide administrative support to the organization of training for partners on programme and operations related issues.
  • Processed incoming and outgoing letters and correspondences.
  • Assist in identifying sources, gathering, and compiling data and information for the preparation of programme documents such as concept notes, presentations, and reports.
  • Provide support to programme activities such as organizations of meetings, workshops, training sessions.
  • Provide support to programme teams in procurement processes.
  • Undertake other duties to assist programme implementation as assigned by Programme Analysts and Programme team.

Functional Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of Project management rules and regulations and accounting principles.
  • Excellent knowledge and application skills of ERP system tools and understanding of management systems.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Project Management, Administration, or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Meet one of the following:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in French and English are required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
