The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners’ programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be personnel of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

 

 

The Project Manager – Communication and Marketing will provide specialized support to the Office of ASG OSCM (OASG). The role includes preparing and finalizing communication documents, original illustrations, and graphics aligned with the communications strategy. This position involves creating briefings, media releases, stories, and other written content for websites and social media channels, primarily in English, with some multilingual content.

The Project Manager will undertake the following tasks/duties:

Communications

  • Implement and update the project Communications Strategy and action plan.
  • Lead content development, editing, proofreading, production, and dissemination of all communications materials for the project, including stories, publications, factsheets, social media content, infographics, posters, web content, and presentations.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other departments, UN agencies, and stakeholders to ensure consistent branding and communications, providing regular updates on communications content.
  • Organize high-profile events, public outreach, and other events.
  • Identify innovative ways to enhance awareness and outreach of OSCM initiatives and build partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Project Manager/Senior Communications Officer to conceptualize, develop layout, format, and design all promotional materials and activities as part of the communication strategy.
  • Edit, review, and advise on all project publications to ensure quality and effective outreach.
  • Support overall OSCM communications and visibility by coordinating closely with other communications team members and contributing as required.
  • Increase overall OSCM branding, recognition, and visibility among its clients.

Graphic Design/Content Creation

  • Create and maintain both internal and external websites with up-to-date information.
  • Develop original illustrations and graphics to support communication materials.

Reporting

  • Prepare briefs, talking points, and key messaging for discussions with partners during key coordination meetings.
  • Report on and monitor the impact of communications, adjusting the approach as needed.
  • Assist in drafting and editing reports for donors, including analysis of political and socio-economic trends in relevant sectors.
  • Draft background analysis and briefing documents as requested.
  • Document and report activities, highlighting progress on communication activities.
  • Create/maintain both internal and external websites with up-to-date information

Knowledge management:

  • Participate in communities of practice and contribute to knowledge management by identifying and sharing lessons learned and best practices.
  • Interact closely with DOS communications and project teams to share project and communications information and knowledge.

Research and Marketing

  • Obtain, analyse, and prepare reports on the activities of key stakeholders.
  • Develop innovative ways to reach target demographics in each market, including the use of technological advances, outreach organizations, advertising, and patient trends.
  • Review content documents across all departments for relevancy, consistency, and brand compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for new content and PR-based projects that drive organizational objectives.

Other

  • Perform any other communications and marketing-related activities to support the mandates of OSCM.
  • Performs other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above

a. Education

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree) preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, international relations, marketing or a related field is required.
  • University Degree (Bachelor’s degree/first level) with a combination of two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

b. Work Experience

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, marketing, media or journalism is required

Desirable (the following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Experience working with the UN is an advantage
  • Experience working with Social Behavioural Change Communication is an asset.
  • Experience in producing analytical reports and communications products is an advantage.

c. Languages

  • Fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.

Terms and Conditions

  • For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
  • For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
