JOB DESCRIPTION

To strengthen the communication and resource mobilization unit, UNFPA Niger is seeking to recruit an international UNV for donor visibility and resource mobilization for a duration of six months. This mission is part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to enhance its resource mobilization capabilities, focusing on transparency and recognition of donor contributions.

UN Volunteers should be provided equal duty of care as extended to all host entity personnel. Host entity support to the UN Volunteer includes, but is not limited to:
– Introductory briefings about the organisation and office-related context including security, emergency procedures, good cultural practice and orientation to the local environment;
– Support with arrival administration including setting-up of bank accounts, residence permit applications and completion of other official processes as required by the host government or host entity;
– Structured guidance, mentoring and coaching by a supervisor including a clear workplan and performance appraisal;
– Access to office space, equipment, IT support and any other systems and tools required to complete the objectives of the assignment including a host entity email address;
– Access to shared host entity corporate knowledge, training and learning;
– Inclusion of the volunteer in emergency procedures such as evacuations;

Leave management;
DSA for official travel, when applicable ;

All changes in the Description of Assignment occurring between recruitment and arrival or during the assignment need to be formalized with the United Nations Volunteer Programme.

The UNV will work under the direct supervision of the organization’s Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Specialist. They will also closely collaborate with the Communications Officer on all matters related to donor visibility.

The overall objective of this UNV is to enhance donor visibility and increase resource mobilization, including in the humanitarian context. Specifically, it aims to:
● Create and disseminate relevant content to highlight donor contributions, including in humanitarian efforts, across various communication platforms.
● Organize partner roundtables to showcase their contributions and mobilize resources.
● Develop concept notes to mobilize resources, including for humanitarian purpose Expected results.
● Produce and regularly publish high quality content (articles, reports, videos, social media posts) on various platforms, showcasing donor contributions, including in the humanitarian context.
● Successfully conduct at least one roundtable during the mission, bringing together key partners a d donors.
● Draft and submit detailed and compelling concept notes for resource mobilization, aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.
Scope of work: An initial meeting with key stakeholders will be organized to discuss the objectives, expectations, and timeline of the mission. Subsequently, a detailed work plan, in accordance with the TORs of the UNV, including a schedule of activities, deliverables, and deadlines, will be developed and serve as a reference throughout the period.

The mission is scheduled for a duration of 6 months, starting from the date of contract signing.
The UNV will work according to the timeline established at the beginning of the mission.
UNFPA will provide the UNV with a suitable workspace and environment, and will offer the necessary support as required, in accordance with its policies and procedures, to enable the successful execution of the mission.

The assignment will take place in the nation’s capital, Niamey, a family duty station.

Niamey is a liveable city. The spontaneous reception and hospitality of the Nigeriens is among the characteristic features of this West African country. The living conditions in Niamey are good, as well as the access to health services.

The yellow fever vaccine is compulsory and vaccination cards should be presented at the entrance. Vaccinations against Meningococcal Meningitis and Hepatitis A and B are also recommended. The basic drugs are available in pharmacies, but it is recommended to bring specific prescription drugs.

There are few banks in Niamey, but they do not have USD or foreign currency accounts. The current security level is 3 (moderate) in Niamey. The selected UN Volunteer will be expected to follow and complete all UN/UNV mandatory trainings and briefings.

It provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
