The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a hands-on dynamic, self starter and experienced Principal, Climate Risk to join our Climate Risk Team.

Purpose of Job

As the Principal, Climate Risk, you will spearhead the implementation of EBRD’s internal climate risk methodologies and related financial sustainability approaches. You will lead the development and execution of approaches aligned with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) principles, now ISSB within the EBRD’s operations.

Facts/Scale

  • Drive execution and implementation of key climate risk and financial sustainability initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the Bank to develop and implement methodologies, processes, and assessment frameworks.
  • Mentor and enable junior team members to support project delivery.
  • Engage with similar professionals to share best practices and foster collaboration.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Develop, refine, and maintain methodologies in line with ISSB requirements.
  • Translate emerging sustainability requirements into financial risk management procedures.
  • Roll out procedures across relevant departments, initiate pilots, and monitor implementation.
  • Have and maintain domain expertise in ISSB, TCFD, CSRD and related climate risk subjects.
  • Drive aspects of the team’s strategy and provide input to the Bank’s leadership on financial sustainability matters.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Can create order with disorder, manage ambiguity.
  • Strong communication, persuasion and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-starting mentality with a drive to deliver high-quality results promptly.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentation.
  • Sound database assessment skills and data management experience.
  • We are a small hands on team – you will draft, prepare and collect and assess.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Proven experience in climate risk and credit risk fields.
  • Ability to translate ESG risk standards into financial inputs for scenario analysis and aggregation.
  • Understanding and quantifying financial risk climate change and environment risks.
  • Sound familiarity with ISSB, TCFD, CSRD, and other emerging standards.
  • Understanding of financial risk frameworks and key concepts of credit risk management.
