Background

Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) affect more than half a billion people worldwide and are a major cause of death and disability. The workstream on CRDs at WHO headquarters is organized into three main areas:

WHO supports selected countries to provide integrated CRD prevention, diagnosis, and management in primary care, tailoring guidance to country-specific context and priorities.

In order to facilitate this, WHO is developing global guidance and other normative products, relating to asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) diagnosis and management.
