JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizational Setting
The Infrastructure Services (CSLI) within the Logistics Services Division (CSL) is responsible for the maintenance of the headquarters premises and for providing services to FAO employees. CSLI assists FAO Decentralized Offices in facilities maintenance, technical projects, infrastructure activities and technically innovative systems to reduce their carbon footprint. CSLI furthermore, coordinates the special safety projects funded by the Government of Italy, which involves upgrading the headquarters buildings to the current safety norms. In addition, it drives the implementation of Corporate Environmental Responsibility Strategy within headquarters and Decentralized Offices.
The post is located in the Corporate Logistics and Operational Support Stream of the Infrastructure Services (CSLI) within the Logistics Services Division (CSL) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Main Purpose
The Maintenance Supervisor (Electrical Systems) coordinates the maintenance and implementation of electrical and electronic systems. Responsibilities may include the supervision of sites, the co-ordination of electricians, the supervision of safety and security related to electrical systems
Supervision Received/Exercised
The Maintenance Supervisor (Electrical Systems) works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Associate and overall guidance of the Facilities Management Officer. He/ she operates independently, applying personal initiative and sound judgement. Supervision received is focused on the quality of work output. The incumbent provides technical and procedural guidance to other maintenance and logistics support staff.
Working Relationships
The Maintenance Supervisor (Electrical Systems) maintains a wide range of contacts with FAO officers and staff throughout the Organization. The incumbent collaborates closely with internal clients and assists the Maintenance Associate with outside contractors, ensuring the quality and timeliness of electrical systems works.
Key Functions/Results
• Supervise the team of electricians. and monitor all the activities related to the ordinary maintenance of the electrical (substations, generators, UPSs, panelboards), fire alarm, lifts, special and security systems carried out by the outsourced contractors and/or by FAO electricians.
• Supervise all the extraordinary works, ensuring compliance with timeline, quality, client’s requirement and technical specifications.
• Assist the Facilities Management Officer in the supervision of large projects by monitoring the performance of the contractors, including works carried out by the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure in the FAO headquarter premises.
• Assist in preparing work programmes and schedules.
• Assist in the preparation of contract specifications and evaluation of tenders in the electrical field.
• Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for maintenance works and renovation works in the electrical field.
• Prepare daily/monthly plans for the Electricians Group and liaise with the Maintenance Assistant for technical installations when necessary.
• Monitor the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the lifts as performed by the external contractor.
• Initiate purchase requisitions for the acquisition of electrical materials for internal electricians.
• Highlight areas requiring special maintenance of the electrical systems work and relevant actions for future improvement.
• Investigate and assist in market research to identify new products that could be advantageous to the Service.
• Propose and implement any action aiming to save energy consumption of the buildings.
• Help ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of electrical equipment according to Italian and European Union Safety codes.
• Provide reports and prepare schemes related to activities as performed.
• Suggest any action to improve continuity of the electric service to the critical areas of the Organization.
• Support corporate initiatives in accordance with the Corporate Environmental Responsibility Strategy to reduce emissions, increase efficiency and integrate sustainability.
• Perform any other duty as required.
Impact of Work
The incumbent supports the Maintenance Associate in the coordination of the renovation and maintenance of the electrical and special systems at FAO headquarters. The incumbent’s work has a direct impact on the smooth and efficient work of the performing of the electrical technicians group and on the reputation of the work unit.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Education: Secondary technical school education supplemented by certified technical courses.
Experience: Five years of experience in the maintenance of electrical and/or special systems in large buildings.
Languages: Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English.
IT Skills: Very good knowledge of standard MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment.
Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. “Commuting distance” means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.
