What we are looking for 

The purpose of the Area Manager position is to ensure high quality and cost-effective programme/project implementation within the designated geographical area 

What you will do 

The following is a brief description of the role:-

  • Assess needs, develop emergency response and implement response plans
  • Ensure optimal use of resources within the allocated project budgets and CC strategies
  • Represent NRC and networking on area level.
  • Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
  • Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses
  • Lead humanitarian access negotiations resulting in opening of new geographical areas
  • Manage relationships with local authorities, communities and other humanitarian players in Herat and Badghis provinces.
  • Advocate for increased humanitarian attention to the evolving situation in Herat and Badghis provinces.
  • Ensure optimal use of resources within the allocated project budgets and CC strategies

What you will bring 

1. Professional competencies 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience from working as a Senior Manager in a    humanitarian/recovery context
  • Bachelor degree in Management and Master degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Context/skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in Afghanistan
  • Knowledge of the local languages (Dari and Pashto) will be an added advantage
  • Experience with start-up and principled humanitarian negotiations
  • Relevant education, preferably in management, social sciences or international development
  • Willingness to travel to project sites in the Western Region

What we offer 

• Duty station: Herat, Afghanistan

• Contract: 24months

• Travel: up to 50%

• Salary/benefits: grade 10 on NRC’s salary scale
