SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI’s interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in some twenty countries, the SI teams – 2500 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

ABOUT THE MISSION

Under the supervision of Solidarités International Emergency Desk, and being part of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Basic Needs / FSL Co is part of the team deployed to open new missions following crises where SI decides to intervene.

ABOUT THE JOB

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
During emergency deployments (70% of the working time), the ERT Basic Needs/Food Security & Livelihood Coordinator’s main tasks lie in conducting rapid needs assessments, analysis and prioritization of urgent multi-sectorial needs of the affected population. The ERT Basic Needs/Food Security & Livelihood is managing the design, implementation and coordination of emergency NFI, FSL interventions, or intervention in other sectors, according to the needs. The ERT BN/FSL Coordinator can also be deployed for training staff and for emergency related technical support missions. The length of deployment will vary according to the needs.
In SI’s headquarters (30% of the working time), the ERT BN/FSL Coordinator is in charge of supporting SI’s Emergency Preparedness and Response strategy. He/She is also involved in SI’s internal knowledge building related to FSL and BN in emergencies as well as different support under the responsibilities of technical managers of the DOAP.
The ERT BB/SAME (BN/FSL) cordinator will be deployed in various context to:
  • Prepare, conduct and formalize initial multisectoral assessment.
  • With the rest of ERT and desk team, define relevant intervention strategy according to the context.
  • Manage the implementation of emergency intervention.
  • Represent SI for programmatic purposes in countries of intervention.
  • Provide technical support on basic needs programing upon request from other program coordinators or regional directors.

YOUR PROFILE

DIPLOMAS:

University degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in a relevant field such as Agricultural Sciences, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods related disciplines, global humanitarian studies, economic sciences.

EXPERIMENT:

  • More than 5 years in the humanitarian sector
  • More than 5 years on a similar position

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Strong experience in emergency intervention in complex environmnent (including cash based programing and/or in-kind distribution)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of FSL projects design and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of principled-based approaches
  • Strong knowledge of the project cycle management
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills
  • Strong knowledge of donors’ policies and guidelines. Experience with ECHO, BHA or CDCS funding would be an asset
  • Proven ability to deal with donors and operational partners
  • Technical knowledge in SI other sectors of expertise (WASH and Shelter) is an asset
  • Previous experience in opening phase is an asset
  • Proven management ability, including ability to motivate and develop skills of team’s members. Must be able to make sound management decisions in difficult situations and also be able to work in a participatory manner with colleagues.
  • Excellent communication, networking skills, organizational and prioritization skills, ability to multi-task
  • Capacity to adapt and show organizational flexibility
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and great team player
  • Proven ability to develop adapted humanitarian vision and strategy
  • Capacity to engage and manage technical staff and curiosity towards their expertise
  • Experience working with SI (or a similar organization) is an asset

SI WILL OFFER YOU

A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem depending on the deployment.

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.

Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.

Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
