Job description

In 2023, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH launched the CATAL1.5°T Initiative (catalist-initiative.eco) to promote the uptake and scaling of innovative climate technologies (‘climate tech’) in young companies and startups in the Global South, with an initial focus on West Africa and Latin America. The initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the international Green Climate Fund (GCF) for a total of EUR 37 million. Its objective is to trigger venture capital investments in start-ups and young businesses with decarbonization products and solutions which have the potential of rapid business growth and a real transformational climate impact in the energy, food & agriculture, manufacturing, buildings and other sectors. The initiative will encompass activities such as acceleration and pre-acceleration programmes aimed at early-stage ventures, ideation workshops (known as ‘climathons’) for founders interested in climate tech, and training sessions on climate, ESG, and diversity for start-up incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.
