Duties and Responsibilities
The consultancy will support the UNEP Chemicals and Health Branch and other relevant units in the UNEP Industry and Economy Division in the early implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals, by developing specific proposals on implementation programmes in line with Resolution V/8. While the work will focus on national systems and industry strategies and action, the consultancy will also cover other topics of Implementation Programmes referred to in Resolution V/8, such as sustainable development linkages and chemicals of concern. The proposals and recommendations developed through the consultancy intend to inform implementation discussions and action by UNEP, the GFC Bureau and Secretariat, the IOMC and ultimately all GFC stockholders. Early on they will specifically inform UNEPs work and input to the discussions of the IOMC which has been mandated to play a role in coordinating various aspects of GFC Implementation Programmes, working closely with GFC stakeholders. Therefore, ownership of IOMC POs as well as all GFC stakeholders is essential. Consultations along the journey will include the IOMC, industry sector leads, NGOs and scientific bodies, as well as the Bureau and other key governments. The aim would be to build ownership of the full process.
Qualifications/special skills
o Minimum 20 years of previous international experience in the field of waste management. o Minimum 20 years of previous international experience in the field of international chemicals and waste management o Working with global and technical and policy publication(s) is required o Working experience with UNEP publicationsis an asset. o Demonstrated professional competence i and knowledge of topics relating to the work of UN Environment Programme is desirable. o Working experience with UN system is an advantage. o Excellent written and communication and report writing skills in English, with analytical capacity and ability to synthesize .
