JOB DESCRIPTION

NRC has been working in the Northwest and Southwest Regions since 2018 responding to the needs of IDPs and host communities affected by the Anglophone Crisis that began since 2017. The purpose of the WASH/Shelter Assistant Hard is to assist the WASH/Shelter Officer Hard in supervising the implementation of all construction related WASH and Shelter activities in the Southwest Region. He/she will ensure effective quality implementation of the WASH and Shelter activities in the Southwest. He/she will also work closely with the implementing partners, WASH, and Shelter staff in the field to ensure timely delivery of WASH/Shelter activities and will assist the WASH/Shelter Officer Hard in the follow up of the field projects and reporting.

A – Generic Responsibilities 

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  2. Assist a range of support with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to plan of action.
  3. Implement independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated.
  4. Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
  5. Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, to be most effective in supporting the team.
  6. Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work.
  7. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  8. Ensure proper filing of documents.

B – Specific Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and supervise the construction and/or rehabilitation works of water and sanitation facilities, shelters and other community infrastructures identified by NRC
  • Participate in preliminary activities (needs assessment, identification of beneficiaries, design of technical documents) of the WASH and Shelter sector
  • Support capacity building of masons, skill and unskilled workers and the local populations
  • Provide technical advice and supervision to integrate traditional construction systems and knowledge and to help beneficiaries build their own shelter.
  • Promote the sustainability of settlements and community infrastructure interventions through technical training in the management and maintenance of the work.
  • Collect and share weekly evidence and required sources of verification of WASH-Shelter installations (distribution lists, photos, success stories, testimonies, minutes).
  • Provide feedback to line manager on goods and materials ordered, as well as the quality of work from contractors.
  • Share the observations from the field, particularly the input received from beneficiaries to improve the program.

C – Generic professional competencies:

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience within the technical expertise area of Building Construction design related to WASH and or Shelter with a focus on the hardware aspects.
  • Experience working within technical expertise area in a humanitarian/ recovery context.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Be willing and able to travel and work regularly on the field (outside office).
  • Fluency in English and local language.

D – Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in the NW/SW Regions.
  • Knowledge of the local language.
  • Mastery of MS Tools.
  • Mastery of Auto CAD, GIS, MS EXCEL is mandatory

We Offer

•     Beginning:  November 2024
•     Duration of the contract: 12 months, renewable depending on the availability of funds
•     Salary / Benefits: In accordance with NRC’s Salary Grid, including 90% health insurance coverage
•     Duty station: Buea
