Launched in September 2020, the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), is a finance instrument that blends private and public funding to support businesses and finance mechanisms that improve the health and sustainability of coral reefs and associated ecosystems while empowering local communities and enterprises. The GFCR UN Global Team (UNGT) is administratively hosted by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

The UNGT is dedicated and integrated cross-functional and multi-UN Agency team that provides management and coordination, as well as technical and operational expertise to conduct GFCR Grant Fund day-to-day activities, support the GFCR Executive Board and implement its financial decisions, and coordinate actions with the wider GFCR coalition. The UNGT is co-hosted by the three GFCR UN Participating Organizations (UNCDF, UNDP, and UNEP) which engage according to their respective mandates and roles. Leadership and secretariat functions of the UNGT are provided by and hosted by UNCDF.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

1.    Provision of Strategic Engagement Services

  • Lead coordination and execution of strategic sessions and engagements, including strategy development, collaboration opportunities, work plans, logistics/registration, briefs, procurements, meeting scheduling, and advocacy materials.
  • Support and maintain mapping and contact listings of key spokespeople and representatives of partners, donors, and relevant key opinion leaders.
  • Guide and support coordination and execution of priority engagements and work plan items with donors and partners, including through tracking, drafting of correspondence and speaking points, development of presentations and webinars, production of meeting minutes, design of collaboration opportunities, and others.
  • Manage mapping and coordination of engagements, including maintenance of annual overview of engagements (events, resource mobilisation and programmatic missions), as well as preparing mission itineraries, supporting travel logistics, and preparing related reports.
  • Review and updating of relevant technical proposals, presentations, and strategic documents.

2.    Ensure Effective Coordination

  • Provide substantive support to consultative meetings, and conferences, preparation of technical background documents and presentations.
  • Supports and may lead coordination with different central UNCDF and participating UN organization teams.
  • Drafts and supports the development of technical documents such as minutes, concept notes, and others as needed.
  • Ensures the maintenance of work plans and filing systems, ensuring the safekeeping of confidential materials.
  • Maintenance of Director’s calendar of events, meetings, sessions, mission schedules, and other opportunities related to UNCDF/NAT;
  • Screens and prioritizes all incoming correspondence, ensuring handling with appropriate sensitivity, and prioritizes items for action.
  • Follow up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken, and coordination of collection and submission of items to the Director.
  • Any other related tasks as required or assigned by the NAT-GFCR Director.

3.    Facilitate Knowledge Management and dissemination.

  • Identify, synthesize and document best practices and lessons learned that are generated from the project and partners.
  • Participate in and ensure sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice on project related issues. Support establishment of knowledge platforms for the project, facilitate innovative mechanisms for dissemination of knowledge from the project, and develop knowledge resources and products to share with project partners and to support UNDP’s engagement in this area.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Institutional Arrangement

The Development & Coordination Analyst will work under the direct guidance of the Strategic Engagement & Partnership Specialist and will work closely with the GFCR Deputy Director.

Education:

Minimum Education requirements

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Social or Political Science, International Development, International Relations, Business Administration or similar field is required.  Or
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:

Minimum years of relevant work experience  

  • Applicants with a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) are required to have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in Engagement and Project Management is required.

Required skills   

  • Demonstrated experience in administrative and executive support is required.
  • Experience in coordination and execution of priority engagements with donors and partners, including through tracking, drafting of correspondence and speaking points, scheduling of calls, development of presentations is required.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section

  • Experience in Professional editing and copywriting skills, including articles, reports, social media content, press releases, newsletters are desired.
  • Experience in organizing online events, including planning, logistics and reporting is desirable.
  • Experience in using online platforms (e.g., Microsoft package, Miro, Canva and similar) is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is a plus.

Required Language(s)  

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • a Knowledge of another UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
