Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. The post is located in the Warehouse and Distribution Team under the Delivery and Return Section of the Supply Chain Service at the UNGSC, Brindisi, Italy. This position reports to the Team Lead of the Warehouse and Distribution Team.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Coordinates and provides logistics support to ongoing air, land, sea, or rail operations for ongoing or new peacekeeping missions. Develops logistical plans for existing missions and contingency plans for drawdown and liquidation of missions. Ensures timely, accountable and cost-effective delivery of peacekeeping cargoes and movement of personnel. • Manages logistics operations including management of logistics assets, materials, contracts and personnel in collaboration with relevant units such as Administration and Programme Management Unit, Procurement and others. Ensures timely, accountable and cost-effective delivery of peacekeeping cargoes and personnel. • Identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations while incorporating Green Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model in all warehouse operations to reduce environmental impact. • Provides guidance to the units under supervision, in relation to the development and execution of subsidiary budgets and the management of personnel needs for the Receiving and Inspection , Property Disposal ,Warehouse Operations, Administration, and Inventory teams. • Drafts and coordinates inputs to logistics reports, presentations, briefing notes, talking points and other information documents required by management. • Provides input towards the development of supply chain management plans (demand, supply, replenishment, and safety stock) budgets and schedules; collaborates and coordinates with technical units to forecast demand and gathers inventory requirements for future planned projects / activities in support of service delivery objectives. • Liaises with and coordinates logistics support provision to UN agencies, military, other organisations, and other clients. • Provides inputs and guidance for the formulation of packaging and shipping requirement-related ERP capabilities. • Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained. • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. • Translates policies and guidance into actionable plans, including developing required new and/or improved business processes and supporting standard operating procedures. • Leverages Business Intelligence (BI) tools focused on demand and supply processes, generates data to improve overall mission supply chain operational responsiveness, agility, and reliability. • Leads process re-engineering to streamline supply chain management functions and transition Centralized Warehousing into the centre of excellence for a responsive supply chain management function. • Provides technical advice on ERP functionalities about warehouse and inventory management, particularly regarding the SMART warehouse project. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Certification in Project/Programme Management methodology by an accredited body (e.g. MSP, PMP, PGMP, PRINCE) 2 or equivalent is desirable. Certification in Six Sigma or equivalent is desirable. Certification in Supply Chain area, such as Supply-Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) or equivalent is desirable. Certification in Supply Chain area, such as “Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)” or equivalent is desirable. Certification in Supply Chain area, such as “Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD)” or equivalent is desirable. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in surface or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. Experience in the use of Business intelligence tools for data analysis and visualization (i.e. Power BI or similar programs) is required. Experience in technical development and implementation of an ERP systems is desirable. Experience in drafting and reviewing SOPs, manuals, operational guidance, and reference documentation is desirable. Experience in monitoring and delivering KPI compliance is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
