The Financial Institution Group (FIG) is one of IFC’s key Departments responsible for a significant portion of IFC’s business volume, profitability, and development reach, approximately 40%. FIG engages in a wide range of sub-sectors including Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, and other areas.


The FIG’s Latin America and the Caribbean team (FIG LAC) is based across the LAC region with main hubs and locations in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Sao Paulo. The team members work on both new business development and processing, and portfolio management across the region.

FIG is seeking to hire several Associate Investment Officers based in one of country offices –  Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bogota, Colombia, Santiago, Chile, Mexico City, Mexico. The Associate Investment Officers are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring, and subsequent supervision of the Corporation’s investment projects.

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

•  Develop a thorough understanding of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) sector and support the team in building strong relationships with key private sector counterparts.
•  Collaborate in creating client strategies, engagement plans, and pitchbooks for specific sectors and countries.
•  Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities, considering industry experience, market potential, financial capability, and strategic alignment.
•  Assess the attractiveness of investment opportunities, focusing on credit quality and development impact, and provide recommendations to IFC management.
•  Execute various types of financings, including loans, equity, and mezzanine funding, by processing mandates, conducting due diligence, structuring deals, and negotiating terms and documentation.
•  Monitor client compliance with investment agreements, prepare timely supervision reports, identify early warning signs, and develop strategies for workouts, restructurings, or rescheduling as needed.
•  Deliver high-quality client service throughout the project lifecycle, from sourcing and processing transactions to supervision.
•  Coordinate closely with upstream, advisory, and environmental and social (E&S) teams to enhance client value.
•  Conduct analytical work, such as due diligence, financial modeling, and preparation of pricing comparability data, to support structuring and restructuring decisions.
•  Draft memos and process waivers, amendments, and ESAMs under the guidance of senior investment officers.
•  Gather and summarize sector and country information to support the portfolio team.
•  Identify data collection needs to evaluate financial, operational, developmental impact, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters, coordinating with clients to obtain necessary information.
•  Analyze financial statements and projections, build financial models, and run sensitivities, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
•  Research project, sector, and country benchmarks to capture lessons learned and support future business opportunities.
•  Identify key stakeholders, including government entities and development partners, to inform business development and client engagement strategies.
•  Conduct credit and integrity risk assessments, review covenant compliance (debt), perform equity valuations, and monitor risk flags to assess portfolio performance, under supervision.
•  Analyze data to evaluate project development impact and prepare industry and market research for Country Private Sector Diagnostics.
•  Research prospective clients or governments to ensure alignment with IFC’s strategic, financial, and integrity criteria.

•  Master’s degree in a related field (such as business, finance, economics, or a sector-specific specialty) and a minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes a proven track record in business consulting, investment banking, or operational roles in the sector or a technical field.
•  Proficiency in financial statement analysis, accounting, finance, financial modeling, discounted cash flow (DCF), and comparable company analysis to support decision-making.
•  Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the financial aspects of investment or advisory transactions, including market analysis and assessing the financial soundness of companies or project opportunities.
•  Basic understanding of how investments or advisory transactions in the Financial Institutions and sectors affect economic, market, and social development, and the ability to use mapping methodologies to assess market conditions, identify gaps, and uncover business opportunities.
•  Stay informed about trends, key players, and developments in specific sectors, countries, or regions.
•  Strong active listening skills to effectively identify client and stakeholder needs.
•  Demonstrate diplomacy and responsiveness in interactions with others.
•  Ability to build relationships with counterparts and mid-level clients and stakeholders to exchange necessary information for transaction or portfolio processing.
•  Effectively distill and summarize large amounts of information from various sources for business documents and presentations.
•  Use graphics and tables to present data creatively and effectively. Write clearly and concisely, presenting information logically and comprehensively.
•  Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work.
•  Conduct thorough market and industry research and analysis.
•  Analyze and synthesize debt pricing benchmarks and equity trading comparables.
•  Basic understanding of different phases of operations throughout the project management lifecycle.
•  Ability to identify connections among relevant projects, programs, and initiatives.
•  Fundamental knowledge of IFC systems.
•  Fluency in English, both verbal and written skills.
•  Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.
