JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
The main goal of this consultancy is to develop a comprehensive green space plan (including potential means of financing it) for enhancing environmental sustainability within the OHCHR’s Palais Wilson Building and Compound. This plan should incorporate practical and cost-effective measures to improve energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and overall environmental sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with stakeholders, including architects, landscape designers, and urban planners, to identify the potential of integrating green building/space concepts for OHCHR Palais Wilson that align with OHCHR’s needs and sustainability, cultural, and aesthetic values. 2. Conduct a feasibility study to explore sustainable energy solutions (e.g., solar panels, geothermal) for the OHCHR Palais Wilson Building. 3. Develop a green building strategy/plan for OHCHR Palais Wilson that includes green spaces, sustainable design, energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and indoor environmental quality. 4. Research potential suppliers and funding options to implement sustainable energy systems for the OHCHR Palais Wilson Building. 5. Provide additional support to the OHCHR SEM Group.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in Environmental Science, Sustainable Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Basic knowledge of environmental strategy implementation such as renewable energy, recycling and waste reduction, green spaces, and urban renewal. A minimum of five years of professional experience with demonstrated professional advancement in designing, operationalizing, and implementing sustainable building, green spaces, sustainable construction, environmental management, and clean technology projects is required. Technical knowledge about buildings and their environmental performance, excellent project management skills, and marketing skills are required. Experience in integrating environmental sustainability across policy, management, and/or operations is required. Experience of work as a green building expert, conducting energy audits, and/or designing renewable energy systems is desirable. A certification in LEED, BREEAM, WELL, or sustainable urban planning is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
