Job Purpose:

UNFPA Afghanistan seeks a Communications and Resource Mobilization Consultant to support the execution of the Communications Plan and Resource Mobilization Strategy. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Country Representative, the Consultant will provide strategic guidance to the Country Office on its external communications, resource mobilization and advocacy on UNFPA’s work around reproductive health and psychosocial support needs of women, girls, young people, and persons living with disabilities affected by the crisis in Afghanistan.

You would be responsible for:

The consultant will work directly with the Communications Specialist and Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Specialist in developing communication products to enhance the visibility of UNFPA’s humanitarian actions and highlight the partnership with donors in the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. S/He will maintain strong collaborative partnerships across various units in the Country Office to ensure high-quality information products and services in the domain of UNFPA’s humanitarian work in the country, including, but not limited to the following:

Visibility

Ensure UNFPA and donor visibility in the field, adhering to branding guidelines in the context of Afghanistan.

Ensure that the Country Office website and social media platforms have updated content to amplify UNFPA’s work among key stakeholders.

Support programme units in developing communications products and IEC materials that provide evidence for UNFPA’s work in Afghanistan.

Resource mobilization

Support units and collaborate with Resource Mobilization and Partnership team to write concept notes, proposals, project reports, situational reports, and other relevant documents, as well as ensure adherence with the SOPs related to Reports writing and Proposal development.

Support the tracking of funding pipelines and coordinate financial projections to ensure a systematic overview of financial resources and enhance strategic planning and resource allocation for effective program implementation.

Collaborate closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit to verify the accuracy and currency of data and statistics presented in reports, project proposals, situation reports (sitrep), and other pertinent documents.

Support units and collaborate with Resource Mobilization and Partnerships thematics to update the monthly reporting calendar and ensure timeliness of reporting deadlines are kept.

Communicating programme results

Update website content with at least two human interest stories per month that demonstrate the impact of UNFPA’s interventions on the lives of women and girls affected by the crisis.

Produce videos featuring human interest stories to highlight the human impact of donor support to the programme.

Amplify messages on results and impact through social media to reach a wider audience, especially in donor countries

Produce a regular donor communications package that includes a comprehensive situation report (bi-monthly), individual donor outreach reports with human interest stories (monthly), Humanitarian Access Snapshot (monthly) In collaboration with the Humanitarian Coordinator, M&E Specialist, Humanitarian Access Specialist and Programme Coordinator.

Support the development of presentations, briefing notes, and infographics for key donor engagement.

Perform other activities/tasks relevant to the consultancy as requested by the CO

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

Advanced university degree in Communications, Media, Social Sciences or related fields.

Knowledge and Experience:

At least 3 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in communication with international organizations, or at least 5 years experience in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience in photography, videography, social media, and story-telling, with solid skills in editing.

Frontline emergency experience, especially in the field of maternal and reproductive health, gender and adolescents & youth programming, is a distinct advantage.

Experience in managing any risks related to humanitarian communications (i.e. protecting the image and mandate of the organization).

Ability to take initiative, multitask, and work independently and proactively.

Language: Fluency in English is required.

Behavioral competencies:

Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish effective working relationships with colleagues within and outside the organization.
