I. Background
The Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) is an editorially independent, authoritative, evidence-based annual report that monitors progress in education in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Report is funded by a group of governments, multilateral agencies and foundations, and published annually by UNESCO since 2002 to serve the international community. It is widely recognized as an indispensable technical and advocacy resource supporting the achievement of SDG 4, which aims to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education” and promote “lifelong learning for all” by 2030. With its renewed mandate, established in the Incheon Declaration of the World Education Forum in May 2015, the annual GEM Report series identify effective education policies and analyses major education themes.
II. Duties and responsibilities
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education (ADG/ED), the guidance of the GEM Report Director, the oversight of the GEM Report Senior Project Officer (Communication and Advocacy) and the direct supervision of the GEM Report Project Officer (Web and Social Media), the incumbent will provide support to the GEM Report team in the implementation of the GEM Report’s communication strategy on social media, the management and monitoring of GEM Report’s content on social media platforms, and in building and growing relationships with online influencers.
The GEM Report is seeking to recruit a Senior Social Media Assistant to provide support to the GEM Report team on developing compelling content for GEM Report’s digital platforms in line with the GEM Report’s communication strategy, coordinating social media campaigns, as well as coordinate within UNESCO and with external partners to ensure dissemination of the GEM Report content. The incumbent will be responsible for the production and consistent sharing of messages across GEM Report platforms daily, will assist with the monitoring and social listening on the GEM Reports’ social media platforms, providing insights on key performance indicators and statistics, ensuring the strengthening of GEM Report’s presence and impact on social media platforms.
In particular, the incumbent will:
1. Assist in implementing of the GEM Report’s communications strategy on social media
• Work with the GEM Report communications team to ensure message consistency and graphic coherence, to create engaging social content.
2. Coordination of social media campaigns
• Assist in developing social media components for communications campaigns and to contribute to the design of strategies to maximize outreach to global audiences and increase awareness of the GEM Report’s role, publications, and activities through social media platforms.
3. Development of social media content
• Assist in the planning, creating and editing of engaging multimedia content to further develop the GEM Reports presence on a range of major social media platforms.
• Maintain a consistent brand tone on different social media platforms, in all UN official languages.
• Fact-check and edit completed work before posting.
• Ensure that all produced materials are accurate and of high quality.
• Ensure multilingual production and sharing of social media content.
4. Build and grow relationships and develop and implement engagement strategies and collaboration with key online influencers
• Research and identify relevant online partners and propose strategies to enhance relationships with online influencers and networks.
• Build long-term relationships with influencers, network partners, and online communities to enhance awareness of the GEM Report products and assist in advocacy.
5. Monitoring of communication material on social media platforms
• Monitor the impact of communication materials on social media platforms, reporting on developments, trends and attitudes, including demographic analyses of target audiences, using social media listening tools, including Brand24, Sprout Social and other relevant tools.
Education
• Completed secondary, technical or vocational school.
Work Experience
• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in social media campaigning.
• Proven experience in social media content creation, planning and coordinating.
• Proven experience in creating compelling graphics, creating content with data analysis.
Skills and competencies
• Excellent writing and editorial skills.
• Proficiency with video and photo editing tools.
• Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of social media trends.
• Knowledge of internet, social media, SEO and web analytics technologies.

Work experience
• 2 years of professional experience in social media campaigning acquired at international level.
Languages
• Working knowledge of one or more official UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 48 526 Euro €.
