This position is located in the Security and Safety Service Section of ECLAC and is under the mandate of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Senior Security Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Conducts daily briefings and assign officers to various functions or posts. • In the event of emergencies and incidents, alerts relevant units and dispatch security personnel to the site under the direction of the Sergeant in charge of the Control Centers. • Upon instructions of direct supervisor, carries out inspections of different posts to make sure that respective equipment and security measures are functioning and efficient. • Examines routine reports prepared by subordinates and certifies their accuracy. • Assists in cases of investigation, recommending action to be taken. • Makes recommendations to the supervising officer on operational matters. • Briefs officers under command of possible security threats and related operational plans. • Assumes control of specific areas as assigned during periods of heightened security. • Counsels, coaches and mentors’ officers under command. • Provides input for the performance evaluation of security personnel under command. • Prepares written reports of related security incidents. • Makes recommendations on basic security operation. • Performs all other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Officers are required to be in possession of valid host country licenses, including but not limited to: motor vehicle permit from the appropriate issuing authorities within the Santiago Region. Your valid motor vehicle permit must be attached to your application. Having passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) is desirable. Additional security or military training is required.
Work Experience
At least three years of experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security Service including investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems and methods of instruction or related area are required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the emergency procedures: detection and handling of dangerous objects, handling of fire emergencies, use of metal detectors, use of firearms, etc, is required. Experience in self-defense techniques is required. Experience working for an international organization or United Nations entities is desirable. Experience in providing training and guidance on emergency procedures is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written Spanish is required. Intermediate level of English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview. Candidates who haven’t passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) will be required to take this test.

– Appointment for positions in the General Service category is done on a local basis.
