CIMMYT is seeking an outstanding, self-motivated, results-oriented professional for the position of Laboratory Assistant to work in the GRP program.

The position is located on the CIMMYT campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico.

Requirements

Main responsibilities:

• Carry out greenhouse work related to the subsequent DNA extraction process.
• Manipulation and preparation of plant tissues for DNA extraction processes.
• Carry out DNA extraction from various cultures, from different tissues and protocols.
• Implement quality controls on genetic material obtained from DNA extraction.
• Prepare a record and internal reports of the functions performed and the results obtained by the SAGA laboratory assigned to this Unit.
• Inform the supervisor of any abnormal situation that arises during the development of the assigned work, for immediate correction.
•  Collaborate in the medium complexity laboratory and greenhouse functions assigned to you, in order to contribute to the fulfillment of the Unit’s objectives.
• Perform support tasks required in the unit, according to the instructions of your immediate supervisor and/or more experienced colleagues.
• Assist in cleaning and maintenance of instruments, equipment and materials used in both the greenhouse and the laboratory.

Requirements:

• Professional career in Biology or similar.
• Basic knowledge of molecular biology.
• A basic knowledge of English will be an advantage, but not a requirement.
• Experience in carrying out the activities described above will be an advantage.
• Patient, determined, hard-working, self-initiative, respectful and trustworthy.
