CIMMYT is seeking an outstanding, self-motivated, results-oriented professional for the position of Research Assistant to work on the Global Wheat Program.

The position is located on the CIMMYT campus in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist in seed preparation, sowing, crop management and harvesting.
  • Collect physiological and agronomic data to support Wheat Physiology projects.
  • Process plant tissue samples in the laboratory following established protocols.
  • Supervise temporary workers to implement measurement protocols.
  • Manage and curate data in relevant databases.
  • Support high-throughput phenotyping using mobile platforms (e.g. LIDAR) and aerial data collection.
  • Assist in the processing of phenotyping data and contribute to the creation of databases.

Requirements

  • The selected candidate must have experience in the use of remote sensing technologies, drones and phenocards, as well as in data collection.
  • The selected candidate will be required to manage data with specialized software for thermal and multispectral images (Pix4D, QGIS, ARCGIS and THERMOVIEWER).
  • The selected candidate must have experience in the use of georeferencing instruments such as RTK and portable GPS.
  • The selected candidate must have an intermediate level in Excel and Python, and a basic level in R software for statistical analysis.
  • The selected candidate must have an advanced level of English.
